Transfer 16, Week 1- I'm Not Dead Yet: Monsoon Season

 

Hello everyone, it's been another beautiful week in this beautiful part of our existence which we call mortality. I hope you are all well and happy and working hard doing whatever you need to do.

 

So last week was transfers, and I sent Elder Johnson off to his area, and I met my new companion Elder Jeong! He's great. Fun fact: his father just became the new Busan mission president.

 

I actually got to see my companion when he first came in the mission- we were both together in the same zone. I really enjoy serving with him; he has as much drive and enthusiasm as when he was a new missionary, and to top it all off, he is Korean and knows how to speak fluently, which is a really big help for me. You think you're good at Korean, and then when you serve with one, you realize that you haven't even lightly scratched the surface of the language or the culture at all. It astonishes me how diverse and intricate Korean culture, history, and language is.

 

So we've been organizing contacts in our phone, cleaning it out and trying to find people who still want to meet. It's taken a while, since we started out with over 1300 contacts.. but we've definitely been setting appointments with people, so we're hoping it all goes over well. :)

 

Also, it's now monsoon season... thankfully it's only a week, but it is a week of surprises, that's for sure. People always have to have an umbrella with them, because it'll just randomly pour buckets on you when you're not prepared.. haha.

 

Funny story time. So you know how in movies or TV shows, when it's pouring rain in the city and large vehicles drive by creating a mini tsunami of dirty rain gutter water? That actually happens.

 

And it did happen. To me. But my companion was fine.

 

So today in the land of Korea, it is the 4th of July! During my mission I have definitely been able to recognize how great blessings I've been able to receive in the United States, and I am so thankful for my parents, having sacrificed everything for the sake of their (then) unborn children and move to a land of promise and opportunity. I know my parents love me, but I'll never know what they went through because they loved me.

 

It's the same for my Savior Jesus Christ. I know He loves me, but I will never know or be able to comprehend what He went through during His time on earth because He loves me. I know His hand is in all things, and wants to guide us to lasting joy and peace.

 

So that's all I have to say- sorry if I tend to be a little short writing emails- my writing and typing skills aren't very good. I'll end off with a scripture I read recently: 1 Nephi 17:13-14

 

"I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led.

...After ye have arrived in the promised land, ye shall know that I, the Lord, am God; and that I, the Lord, did deliver you"

Transferencia 16, Semana 1- No estoy muerto todavía: Temporada de monzón

 

Hola a todos, ha sido otra hermosa semana en esta hermosa parte de nuestra existencia que llamamos mortalidad. Espero que estés bien, feliz y que trabajes duro haciendo lo que tengas que hacer.

 

Así que la semana pasada fueron los traslados, y envié al élder Johnson a su área, y conocí a mi nuevo compañero, el Elder Jeong. Él está bien. Divertido hecho: su padre se convirtió en el nuevo presidente de la misión de Busan.

 

De hecho, llegué a ver a mi compañero cuando vino por primera vez a la misión, ambos estábamos juntos en la misma zona. Me gusta mucho servir con él; Tiene tanto impulso y entusiasmo como cuando era un nuevo misionero, y para colmo, es coreano y sabe hablar con fluidez, lo cual es una gran ayuda para mí. Usted piensa que es bueno en coreano, y luego cuando se sirve con uno, te das cuenta de que ni siquiera ligeramente rayado la superficie de la lengua o la cultura en absoluto. Me asombra lo diverso e intrincado que es la cultura, la historia y el lenguaje de Corea.

 

Así que hemos estado organizando contactos en nuestro teléfono, limpiándolo y tratando de encontrar personas que aún quieran reunirse. Ha tomado un tiempo, ya que empezamos con más de 1300 contactos ... pero definitivamente hemos estado fijando citas con la gente, así que esperamos que todo vaya bien. :)

 

Además, ahora es temporada de monzón ... afortunadamente es sólo una semana, pero es una semana de sorpresas, eso es seguro. La gente siempre tiene que tener un paraguas con ellos, porque simplemente vas a tener cubos de lluvias cuando no estás preparado .. jaja.

 

Tiempo de cuento divertido. Así que usted sabe cómo en películas o programas de televisión, cuando está lloviendo lluvia en la ciudad y vehículos de gran tamaño por la creación de un mini tsunami de agua sucia goteo de la lluvia? Eso realmente sucede.

 

Y sucedió. A mi. Pero mi compañero estaba bien.

 

Así que hoy en la tierra de Corea, es el 4 de julio! Durante mi misión, definitivamente he sido capaz de reconocer cuán grandes bendiciones he podido recibir en los Estados Unidos, y estoy muy agradecido por mis padres, habiendo sacrificado todo por el bien de sus hijos Una tierra de promesa y oportunidad. Sé que mis padres me aman, pero nunca sabré lo que pasaron porque me querían.

 

Es lo mismo para mi Salvador Jesucristo. Sé que Él me ama, pero nunca sabré o será capaz de comprender lo que Él pasó durante Su tiempo en la tierra porque Él me ama. Yo sé que Su mano está en todas las cosas, y quiere guiarnos a un gozo y paz duraderos.

 

Así que eso es todo lo que tengo que decir, lo siento si tienden a ser un poco corto escribir correos electrónicos mi escritura y habilidades de mecanografía no son muy buenos. Terminaré con una escritura que leí recientemente: 1 Nefi 17: 13-14

 

"Yo también seré vuestra luz en el desierto, y prepararé el camino delante de vosotros, si es que guardareis mis mandamientos, y por cuanto guardaréis mis mandamientos, seréis conducidos hacia la tierra prometida. Sabréis que por mí sois guiados.

... Después de haber llegado a la tierra prometida, sabréis que yo, el Señor, soy Dios; Y que yo, el Señor, te libré "

Transfer 15, Week 6- Transfer Calls

Hey all, I had a really busy week. I went on exchanges with the assistants, and it was fun being with Elder Murray in my 동기. We contacted a media referral, and he's a Sri Lankan in a hospital in Daejeon. We heard his awesome life story and felt the opportunity to share with him about the Plan of Salvation. Wonderful to see how the Lord prepares His children. :)

We went back to Daejeon later in the week to help President Madsen and the assistants work out a language study program for the first twelve weeks for incoming missionaries learning Korean. There was a lot of brainstorming and stress there.

Anyway, we got transfer calls yesterday! So due to the recent decrease of elders in the mission, a team in my area is closed, and I will be staying, Elder Jones will go home (#ReturnWithHonor), Elder Kim going to Iksan, and my companion Elder Johnson will be going to Daejeon Seonhwa ward, my 3rd area! I will be serving with Elder 정재훈, a Korean who was in my previous zone! I really like him, and am excited for the opportunity we have to serve as companions.

I look forward to the adventures this next transfer will hold for me. It's gonna be a blast, and I look forward to moving forward with the Lord over the next 6 weeks. :)

Transferencia 15, Semana 6 - Transferencia de llamadas

Hola a todos, tuve una semana muy ocupada. Fui a division con los asistentes, y fue divertido estar con Elder Murray en mi 동기. Nos pusimos en contacto con un referencia,  él es de Sri Lanka esta en un hospital en Daejeon. Escuchamos su impresionante historia de vida y sentimos la oportunidad de compartir con él sobre el Plan de Salvación. Es maravilloso ver cómo el Señor prepara a Sus hijos. :)

Volvimos a Daejeon más tarde en la semana para ayudar al presidente Madsen y los asistentes a elaborar un programa de estudio de idiomas durante las primeras doce semanas para que los misioneros recién llegados aprendan coreano. Hubo un montón de ideas y estrés allí.

Bueno, nos llamaron por la transferencia ayer! Así que debido a la reciente disminución de Elderes en la misión, un grupo en mi área sera cerrado,  yo me quedaré, el élder Jones se irá a casa (#ReturnWithHonor), el élder Kim va a Iksan y mi compañero el élder Johnson iran a un barrio de Daejeon Seonhwa, mi tercera área! Estaré sirviendo con Elder 정재훈, un coreano que estaba en mi zona anterior! Realmente me gusta, y estoy emocionado por la oportunidad que tenemos de servir como compañeros.

Espero con ansias las aventuras que esta próxima transferencia tendrá para mí. Va a ser una explosión, y espero seguir adelante con el Señor en las próximas 6 semanas. :)

Transfer 15, Week 5- Sleep Talk

                             

Hey all, I hope you all are doing well! :) This week just went by really fast. I'm not sure where to begin, so I'll just put in days that I think are important.

Last preparation day we went to the Sangdang fortress in Cheongju, and it was cool seeing bits of culture here and there. I want to send photos but I'm having some problems...

On Thursday we had exchanges with the Chungju elders! It was fun being with them and since it was my first area, it was great talking to them about the area and the ward, and seeing how things have changed.

On Sunday we had a meeting as a stake with an area Seventy, and we talked about using social media to share the gospel. Since Elder Oaks' visit to Korea, the members have definitely been working hard to apply the things that he said for the Korean people, and I know that it will be a huge boost to the spreading of the good news throughout this beautiful nation.

Anyway, that's all I have to say, I hope you can continue to feel God's love and guidance in your lives.

                                      Transferencia 15, Semana 5- Hablar Dormido.

¡Hola a todos, espero que todos estén bien! :) Esta semana pasó muy rápido. No estoy seguro de por dónde empezar, así que voy a poner en días que creo que son importantes.

El último día de preparación fuimos a la fortaleza de Sangdang en Cheongju, y era fresco viendo pedacitos de cultura aquí y allí. Quiero enviar fotos pero tengo algunos problemas ...

¡El jueves tuvimos intercambios con los Elderes de Chungju! Fue divertido estar con ellos ya que era mi primera área, fue genial hablando con ellos sobre la zona y el barrio, y viendo cómo las cosas han cambiado.

El domingo tuvimos una reunión de estaca con un Setenta de área, y hablamos sobre el uso de las redes sociales para compartir el evangelio. Desde la visita de Elder Oaks a Corea, los miembros han estado trabajando duro para aplicar las cosas que dijo para el pueblo coreano, y sé que será un gran impulso para la difusión de las buenas noticias a través de esta hermosa nación.

De todos modos, eso es todo lo que tengo que decir, espero que puedas seguir sintiendo el amor y la guía de Dios en tu vida.

Transfer 15, Week 4- 좋은 소식

Hey all, I have good news (That's the title of the email this week), look at the first attached photo.

The three girls we were teaching in Naju got baptized! :) I read the news and I just about flipped a table in joy. I was able to teach them all the lessons with my trainee, and very soon after I transferred up to Cheongju, so it's a bit sad to not be there, but look at how handsome my trainee is :) He's a fantastic missionary and I am very proud to hear that he helped 3 wonderful daughters of God come unto Christ.

Anyway, there isn't too much going on up here. During the week we bumped into one of our media referrals, so that was a funny coincidence ㅎㅎ Time and time again, I am assured of the promise in Proverbs 16:9. I'll share it at the end.

I love the Lord, and I love His Son. They are the joy in my life.

Sorry for the short email, just got a call about moving into a new apartment and have to be there in a little bit! Have a great week!

Transfer 15, Semana 4- 좋은 소식

Hola a todos, tengo buenas noticias (Ese es el título del correo electrónico esta semana), miren la primera foto adjunta.

¡Las tres chicas que enseñábamos en Naju fueron bautizadas! :) He leído las noticias y sólo al saberlo he volteado de la mesa en alegría. Yo pude enseñarles todas las lecciones con mi aprendiz, y muy pronto después de que me trasladó a Cheongju, por lo que es un poco triste no estar allí, pero mira cómo guapo mi aprendiz es :) Es un misionero fantástico y yo soy Muy orgulloso de saber que ayudó a 3 hijas maravillosas de Dios a Cristo.

De todos modos, no hay mucho que hacer aquí. Durante la semana nos topamos con una de nuestras referencias, por lo que fue una divertida coincidencia ㅎㅎ Una y otra vez, estoy seguro de la promesa en Proverbios 16: 9. Lo compartiré al final.

Amo al Señor, y amo a Su Hijo. Son la alegría en mi vida.

Transfer 15, Week 3- "I'm like a salmon"

Hey all, I had a great week, and I hope you all did as well!

Updates: I feel very Korean. I have learned the national anthem of South Korea, and I learned Arirang a while back. Arirang is a really, REALLY old song that every Korean knows. It's impressive and weird at the same time when a foreigner sings it. Haha.

Also, We had a guy call us out of the blue to meet with us. He had met missionaries a long time ago, and knew Elder Hiatt, one of my companions in Daejeon. I'm actually serving in his first area right now, so he's known the missionaries for quite a while. Anyway, this man that called us is Korean, but he lived in New York and Philadelphia longer than he has lived in Korea. He speaks with a New York accent and almost perfect English. He's very thoughtful, and his experience in Korea and the US has definitely given him a lot of wisdom.

I asked him, "What brings you back to Korea?" 

"I'm like a salmon." So yeah, that's this week's title.

We had an awesome zone conference in Beopjusa! So I actually had been there before when President Shin took the northern half of the mission in October of 2015, and I didn't bring a camera that dad, so I was really bummed, but it was awesome seeing it again, and I actually took some photos, but the tour guide took a really long time, so time was short... oh well.

It was interesting to see how much I changed from the first time I went to this temple to yesterday. My love and perspective of Korea has grown and changed, and while learning about Buddhism yesterday it was interesting to see the eternal truths that are found among all of God's children.

1 Corinthians 9:22 (19-22)

To the [Koreans] became I as[a Korean], that I might gain the [Koreans]: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

Transfer 15, Semana 3- "Soy como un salmón"

Hey todos, tuve una gran semana, y espero que todos la pasaron bien también!

Actualizaciones: Me siento muy coreano. He aprendido el himno nacional de Corea del Sur, y aprendí Arirang hace un tiempo. Arirang es una canción realmente, REALMENTE vieja que cada coreano sabe. Es impresionante y extraño al mismo tiempo cuando un extranjero lo canta. Jaja.

Además, tuvimos un chico que nos llamo de la nada para reunirse con nosotros. Había conocido a los misioneros hace mucho tiempo, y conocía al élder Hiatt, uno de mis compañeros en Daejeon. En realidad estoy sirviendo en su primera área ahora mismo, así que conoce a los misioneros durante bastante tiempo. De todos modos, este hombre que nos llamó es coreano, pero vivió en Nueva York y Filadelfia más de lo que ha vivido en Corea. Habla con un acento de Nueva York y un inglés casi perfecto. Es muy considerado, su experiencia en Corea y los Estados Unidos definitivamente le ha dado mucha sabiduría.

Le pregunté, "¿Qué te trae de vuelta a Corea?"

"Soy como un salmón." Así que sí, ese es el título de esta semana.

¡Tuvimos una conferencia de zona impresionante en Beopjusa! Así que en realidad había estado allí antes cuando el presidente Shin tomó la mitad norte de la misión en octubre de 2015, y yo no traje una cámara que papá, así que estaba realmente desanimado, pero era increíble verlo de nuevo, y en realidad Tomó algunas fotos, pero el guía tomó un tiempo realmente largo, así que el tiempo era corto ... oh bien.

Fue interesante ver cuánto cambié desde la primera vez que fui a este templo ayer. Mi amor y perspectiva por Corea ha crecido y cambiado, y mientras aprendía sobre el budismo ayer fue interesante ver las verdades eternas que se encuentran entre todos los hijos de Dios.

Transfer 15, Week 2- Elder Oaks

Hey all! I hope you all have been well, and are enjoying Memorial Day back in the states. To be honest, I completely forgot that it was memorial day. All I remember is that the 29th is my brother's birthday #ShoutOutToSamuel Though he's my only brother, I know that he is the best brother that God could have given me. 1 Peter 2:17, a favorite scripture that says the word "brotherhood". :)

So on Friday, Elder Dallin H. Oaks came along with Elder Gong of the presidency of the Seventy, and Elder Choi (He just spoke in general conference- "Don't look around, look up!"- great talk) and met with our mission for a couple of hours, and it was such a wonderful, spiritual experience. I could feel their love for all the people in the room. I also had a wonderful opportunity to sing with Elder Hunsaker, a close missionary friend of mine, and we sang "Lord, I Would Follow Thee" together, with Elder Rifareal, another close missionary friend,  playing the piano. After the musical number, Elder Oaks talked about the importance in maintaining harmony and balance in duets, as well as companionship, and eventually, marriage. I received answers to questions I didn't even know I needed, and I truly could feel God's guidance and love in that meeting.

Anyway, there isn't much else for me to say; I'm still trying to adjust to the fast pace of big city life as a missionary... hahaha. Prayers from all y'all are totally welcome and appreciated. :)

Here's a scripture that Elder Oaks shared in the meeting that helped me a lot. D&C 46:13,14

To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the world. To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful.

Transferencia 15, Semana 2- Elder Oaks

¡Oigan todos! Espero que todos ustedes esten bien, y esten disfrutando de Memorial Day en USA. Para ser honesto, olvidé por completo que era un día de Fiesta. Todo lo que recuerdo es que el día 29 es el cumpleaños de mi hermano #ShoutOutToSamuel Aunque él es mi único hermano, sé que él es el mejor hermano que Dios podría haberme dado. 1 Pedro 2:17, una escritura favorita que dice la palabra "hermandad".

Así que el viernes, el élder Dallin H. Oaks vino con el élder Gong de la presidencia de los Setenta, y el élder Choi (Él acaba de hablar en la conferencia general: "¡No mires a mirar, mira hacia arriba! Nuestra misión por un par de horas, y fue una maravillosa experiencia espiritual. Podía sentir su amor por todas las personas en la habitación. También tuve una maravillosa oportunidad de cantar con el élder Hunsaker, un amigo misionero cercano, cantamos "Lord, I Would Follow Thee" juntos, con el élder Rifareal, otro amigo misionero cercano, tocando el piano. Después del número musical, el élder Oaks habló sobre la importancia de mantener la armonía y el equilibrio en dúos, así como compañerismos y, finalmente, el matrimonio. Recibí respuestas a preguntas que ni siquiera sabía que necesitaba, y realmente podía sentir la guía y el amor de Dios en esa reunión.

De todos modos, no hay mucho más que decir; Todavía estoy tratando de adaptarme al ritmo rápido de la vida de la gran ciudad como un misionero ... jajaja. Oraciones de todos ustedes son totalmente bienvenidos y apreciados. Esta es una escritura que el élder Oaks compartió en la reunión que me ayudó mucho.

Hey all, I'm in a new area! I'm here in Cheongju, and I am quite enjoying it.

Fun facts: 

1-I'm in a 4 elder, 2 sister area. I had been in a 2-man area for about 11 transfers before that.

2- I'm in a 6-man house with the Heungdeok Elders. The feeling of being in a house with so many people is definitely different than that of the 2-man house lifestyle. I like it.

I don't know what to say.. I'm still adjusting to the city life, and I feel a little overwhelmed at times because there's so much that I feel like I need to do, but it feels like I don't have enough time to do it all. Anyway, I know that it was God's will for me to be sent here, and if I am faithful and trust in Him, He'll help me accomplish things here in the area.

I'll keep it short today, and finish by saying that Elder Dallin H. Oaks' visit is putting the whole mission in a buzz. I'm really excited to see and hear what he has to say for our mission, as well as the Korean people. Korea has been blessed greatly with the visit of Elder Bednar last October, Elder Holland in February, and Elder Oaks this month. Who's next? Hahahaha.

Trust in the Lord. He is one that can be trusted. I know that to be true with all my heart.

Since I've come into the area, this scripture has often come to mind: Moses 1:6

"And I have a work for thee... my son"

Transferencia 15, Semana 1- 상당 스콰 드 (Escuadron Sangdang)

¡Hola a todos, estoy en una nueva área! Estoy aquí en Cheongju, y estoy disfrutando mucho.

Hechos graciosos:

1-Estoy en un área de 4 Elderes y 2 hermanas. Había estado en una zona de 2 hombres por unos 11 traslados antes de eso.

2- Estoy en una casa de 6 hombres con los Elderes de Heungdeok. La sensación de estar en una casa con tanta gente es definitivamente diferente que el estilo de vida de la casa de dos hombres. Me gusta.

No sé qué decir .. Todavía estoy ajustando a la vida de la ciudad, y me siento un poco abrumado a veces porque hay tanto que siento que tengo que hacer, pero se siente como si no tuviera Suficiente tiempo para hacerlo todo. De todos modos, sé que fue la voluntad de Dios para mí ser enviado aquí, y si soy fiel y confío en Él, Él me ayudará a lograr las cosas aquí en el área.

Voy a mantenerlo corto hoy, y terminaré diciendo que la visita del élder Dallin H. Oaks está poniendo toda la misión en un zumbido. Estoy muy emocionado de ver y escuchar lo que él tiene que decir para nuestra misión, así como para el pueblo coreano. Corea ha sido bendecida enormemente con la visita del élder Bednar en octubre pasado, el élder Holland en febrero y Elder Oaks este mes. ¿Quién es el siguiente? Jajajaja

Confía en el Señor. Él es uno en quien se puede confiar. Sé que es la verdad con todo mi corazón.

Transfer 14, Week 6- Transfer Calls

It is with great excitement and with great sorrow that I will be leaving the paradise that is Naju.

I received a call from President Madsen, saying that I will be going up to Cheongju, to the Sangdang Ward! My companion is Elder Johnson, but there may be several of them in the mission, so I can't offer more detail than that.ㅎㅎ

So for those that may not know about Cheongju, let's throw back to about a year and half ago when I was in my first area Chungju. I'm going back to my first zone! Cheongju is southwest of my first area. :)

There isn't much for me to say.. I'm really astonished. I thought I would stay, but I know that this is the Lord's will, and though I feel a lot of love from the members and investigators when they want me to stay, I know that their love is sending me forward to more experiences and miracles up in the northern half of the mission. 

 "Come unto me... and it shall be made manifest unto you how great things the Father hath laid up for you, from the foundation of the world"- Ether 4:14

So I'm leaving a lot of people I love, but I'm leaving a lot of love with them. I don't know when I'll see them again, but I know that the relationships I had here in Naju will bless me for the rest of my life, and for eternity. This scripture gave me such comfort during my life, I hope it can do the same for you. 

D&C 130:2  

And that same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there, only it will be coupled with eternal glory, which glory we do not now enjoy.

Transferencia 14, Semana 6 - Llamadas de Transferencias.

Es con gran emoción y con gran pena que voy a dejar el paraíso que es Naju.

Recibí una llamada del Presidente Madsen, diciendo que iré a Cheongju, a la Sala Sangdang! Mi compañero es el élder Johnson, pero puede haber varios de ellos en la misión, así que no puedo ofrecer más detalles que eso.

Así que para aquellos que no pueden saber acerca de Cheongju, vamos a tirar de nuevo a alrededor de un año y medio cuando yo estaba en mi primera zona de Chungju. ¡Voy a volver a mi primera zona! Cheongju está al suroeste de mi primera área. :)

No hay mucho que decir. Estoy realmente asombrado. Pensé que me quedaría, pero sé que esta es la voluntad del Señor, y aunque siento mucho amor de los miembros e investigadores cuando quieren que me quede, sé que su amor me está enviando hacia adelante a más experiencias y milagros En la mitad norte de la misión.

 "Venid a mí ... y os será manifestado cuán grandes cosas el Padre os ha guardado desde la fundación del mundo" - Éter 4:14

Así que estoy dejando a mucha gente que amo, pero estoy dejando mucho amor con ellos. No sé cuando los veré de nuevo, pero sé que las relaciones que tuve aquí en Naju me bendecirán por el resto de mi vida y por la eternidad. Esta escritura me dio tal consuelo durante mi vida, espero que pueda hacer lo mismo por ti.

Transfer 14, Week 5- The Yellow Dust

Hey all, I hope you had a good week where the air quality is good enough to not wear a mask! There is a weather phenomenon here in Asia, where yellow dust from there deserts of China and Mongolia are picked up and carried by the winds to other countries (like the lovely land of Korea)- sometimes as far as the western US, but only in really serious cases.

Anyway, spring is in the air, and so is the dust! And it really is yellow! I almost have a hard time believing it myself until I wipe my finger on an untouched surface. So yeah, there are advisories and missionaries are allowed to wear masks when the amount of dust is really high, but in my opinion, it's not as bad as the inversion can get in Utah... haha.

Anyway, we had a really busy week, it was full of holidays! On the 3rd, it was Buddha's birthday (which is a national holiday- businesses and whatnot actually close for the day, unlike Christmas here in Korea), so the Gwangju stake had a sports day! It was fun, playing sports like soccer, 족구, softball, volleyball, etc. It was a great way to interact with and get close to members.

Thursday we had a trainer/trainee meeting, so we went up to Daejeon for that- I'm always glad to be up in Daejeon, and I am super excited to go up again when Elder Dallin H Oaks comes to Korea. :)

Friday we did exchanges with the zone leaders, and in Korea, May 5th is Children's day, so Koreans had another day off and we took family pictures of people at a park and shared with them about the importance of family. It was also my last exchange with Elder Hiatt, since he goes home next week..  But it's okay! I learned a lot from him and I wish him the best.

Saturday we taught our investigators the Plan of Salvation and they understood really well! My companion is a really good teacher, especially considering the fact that he is in his first transfer.

Sunday was fast Sunday, and I have to say, I really have come to enjoy fasting. I feel more calm and temperate, and my mood is really good every time I fast. I know it may not be easy or fun for some of you, but do it, it's totally worth it.

Monday was Zone training meeting, and Elder Hiatt at the end shared his final testimony to the zone, and wow, I was left unable to move from the power of his words. I want to share a scripture that he shared, that for him was the beginning of his testimony.

 Mosiah 2:41

And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.

1- 3 years ago a boat sank with 250+ people, a very painful time for the Korean people. Just recently they brought it out of the water, and brought it into a Mokpo harbor, so we got to see that. Though I'm not Korea, it was a very heavy experience.

Transferencia 14, Semana 5 - El Polvo Amarillo

Hey todos, espero que hayan tenido una buena semana donde la calidad del aire es lo suficientemente buena como para no usar una máscara! Hay un fenómeno meteorológico aquí en Asia, donde el polvo amarillo de los desiertos de China y Mongolia es recogido y transportado por los vientos a otros países (como la hermosa tierra de Corea) - a veces hasta el oeste de EE.UU., pero sólo en Casos realmente graves.

¡Bueno, la primavera está en el aire, y también lo es el polvo! ¡Y es realmente amarillo! Casi me cuesta creerlo hasta que me limpie el dedo en una superficie intacta. Así que sí, hay avisos y los misioneros están autorizados a usar máscaras cuando la cantidad de polvo es muy alto, pero en mi opinión, no es tan malo como la inversión puede llegar en Utah ... jaja.

¡Bueno, tuvimos una semana muy ocupada, estaba lleno de días de fiestas! ¡El 3, fue el cumpleaños de Buda (que es un día de fiesta nacional y que realmente cierran todo el día, a diferencia de Navidad aquí en Corea), así que la estaca de Gwangju tenía un día de deportes! Fue divertido, jugar deportes como fútbol, 족구, softbol, voleibol, etc. Fue una gran manera de interactuar y acercarse a los miembros.

El jueves tuvimos una reunión de entrenadores y aprendices, así que fuimos a Daejeon para eso. Siempre estoy contento de estar en Daejeon, y estoy muy emocionado de subir de nuevo cuando el élder Dallin H Oaks venga a Corea. 

El viernes hicimos intercambios con los líderes de la zona, en Corea el 5 de mayo es el día de los niños, por lo que los coreanos tuvieron otro día libre y tomamos fotos familiares de la gente en un parque y compartimos con ellos sobre la importancia de la familia. También fue mi último intercambio con el élder Hiatt, ya que él se va a casa la próxima semana .. ¡Pero está bien! Aprendí mucho de él y le deseo lo mejor.

¡El sábado enseñamos a nuestros investigadores el Plan de Salvación y ellos entendieron muy bien! Mi compañero es un maestro muy bueno, especialmente teniendo en cuenta el hecho de que está en su primera transferencia.

El domingo fue rápido, y tengo que decir, que realmente he llegado a disfrutar del ayuno. Me siento más tranquilo y templado, y mi estado de ánimo es realmente bueno cada vez que ayuno. Sé que puede no ser fácil o divertido para algunos de ustedes, pero si lo hacen, vale totalmente la pena.

El lunes fue la reunión de entrenamiento de la Zona y el élder Hiatt al final compartió su último testimonio a la zona, y wow, me quedé incapaz de moverme del poder de sus palabras. Quiero compartir una escritura que él compartió, que para él fue el comienzo de su testimonio.

Transfer 14, Week 4- When the sisters in the district lose their phone.

Hey all, I'm sorry for the late email, I hope you're all doing well. I am here in Mokpo for 2 reasons: one, we're here to spend preparation day with the elders, and two, the Mokpo sisters left their phone at the Naju train station, so we're coordinating a delivery hahaha.

It was a busy week! We helped the Mokpo sisters move into their new apartment on Wednesday, and we had exchanges on Thursday- I was in Naju with Elder Allen, and he is a wonderful missionary, so disciplined, and a hard worker, straight from the Air Force academy. 

Saturday we met with a couple member referrals, and we taught the first lesson, and we set a baptismal date with them! It was probably the first official lesson I can recall teaching with such formality in the church, but it was really good! It's interesting teaching those of a younger age group to their understanding. Being a missionary in Korea for a while, I've been able to learn the gospel terms as well as other Korean terms used in conversation, but teaching one of the kids was an eye opener since there were words that I knew that she didn't. Looking at her, I felt impressed at her purity, and her receptiveness to the message. 

This scripture came to mind: 3 Nephi 9:22

Therefore, whoso repenteth and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of God. Behold, for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up again; therefore repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved.

Also, yesterday we had district meeting with the zone leaders and the Naju branch president's daughter came to the meeting as well. She really appreciated the experience of seeing missionary life a little bit before she gets to go on her mission. She's preparing well. :)

Transferencia 14, Semana 4- Cuando las hermanas en el distrito pierden su teléfono.

Hey todos, lo siento por el correo electrónico tarde, espero que todos ustedes esten pasadolo bien. Estoy aquí en Mokpo por dos razones: una, estamos aquí para pasar el día de la preparación con los Misioneros y  las hermanas de Mokpo dejaron su teléfono en la estación de tren de Naju, así que estamos coordinando una entrega hahaha.

¡Fue una semana muy ocupada! Ayudamos a las hermanas Mokpo a mudarse a su nuevo apartamento el miércoles, y tuvimos intercambios el jueves, estuve en Naju con el Elder Allen, un maravilloso misionero, tan disciplinado y trabajador, directamente de la academia de la Fuerza Aérea.

¡El Sábado nos reunimos con un par de referencias de miembros, y enseñamos la primera lección, establecimos una fecha de bautismo con ellos!, ¡Probablemente fue la primera lección oficial que recuerdo haber enseñado con tal formalidad en la iglesia, pero fue realmente bueno! Es interesante enseñar a los de un grupo de edad más joven a su comprensión. Ser un misionero en Corea por un tiempo, he sido capaz de aprender los términos del evangelio, así como otros términos coreanos utilizados en la conversación, pero la enseñanza de uno de los niños fue un abridor de ojos ya que había palabras que yo sabía que ella no Mirándola, me sentí impresionado por su pureza y su receptividad al mensaje.

Por tanto, el que se arrepienta y viene a mí como un niño pequeño, él lo recibirá, porque de ellos es el reino de Dios. He aquí que yo he dado mi vida, y la he vuelto a levantar; Por tanto, arrepiéntete, y ven a mí los términos de la tierra, y salva.

Además, ayer tuvimos una reunión del distrito con los líderes de la zona y la hija del presidente de la rama Naju vino a la reunión también. Realmente apreció la experiencia de ver la vida misionera un poco antes de que ella llegue a su misión. Ella se está preparando bien.

Transfer 14, Week 3- A Short Week

Hey all, I hope you're all alive and well. I am also alive and well, don't you worry about me or what you may hear on the news about North Korea. To be honest, people in the US worry more about North Korea than South Koreans worry about North Korea... it's pretty funny, haha.

Anyway, there isn't much for me to say this week. We had a couple originally from Naju move back from Gwangju, and they referred us to their 3 nieces, whose parents are both inactive. There's a lot of potential there, things are looking up for the Naju branch. :)

One of the things I love most about Naju is the members, and the members love sports! We played some baseball/softball on the field next to the church the other day (I haven't swung a baseball bat in years, so my skills were shameful to the Venezuelan heritage inside of me... anyway), and as the weather keeps getting warmer, there are gonna be a lot more activities to bring investigators. :)

Anyway, that's all for now. Here's a scripture I read the other day, which made me really happy.

Transferencia 14, Semana 3- Una Semana Corta.

Hola a todos, espero que estén todos vivos y bien. Yo también estoy vivo y bien, no se preocupen por mí o lo que pueda oír en las noticias sobre Corea del Norte. Para ser honesto, la gente en los EE.UU. se preocupa más por Corea del Norte que los surcoreanos se preocupan por Corea del Norte ... es bastante divertido, jaja.

De todos modos, no hay mucho que decir esta semana. Tuvimos una pareja originalmente de Naju moverse de regreso de Gwangju, y nos remitieron a sus 3 sobrinas, cuyos padres son ambos inactivos. Hay mucho potencial allí, las cosas están viendo para la rama de Naju. 

¡Una de las cosas que más me gusta de Naju son los miembros, y los miembros les encantan los deportes! Jugamos un poco de béisbol / softbol en el campo al lado de la iglesia el otro día (no he oscilado un bate de béisbol en años, así que mis habilidades eran vergonzosas de mi herencia venezolana ... de todos modos), y como el tiempo Sigue calentándose, van a haber muchas más actividades para llevar a los investigadores. 

De todos modos eso es todo por ahora. Aquí hay una escritura que leí el otro día, que me hizo muy feliz.

Transfer 14, Week 2- A Whole New House (sort of)

Hello all, I hope you're doing alright~ I had a good week, it was definitely an eventful time. :)

On Tuesday, we went to a lake by Mt. Geumseong, and there were tons of blossoming cherry trees! Now most of the blossoms are gone, but on that day it was windy, and the falling petals made it seem like there was a blizzard on a sunny day. It was definitely unforgettable.

On Thursday, we moved apartments, but we're still in the same apartment complex, haha. And we're actually closer to the church, which is surprising, since we're only about a 2 minute walk away, but now we can see the lovely Naju "temple" from the 10th floor.

Fun fact: When Koreans move into a new home, they celebrate by eating 짜장면 (Noodles in some sort of black sauce), so we went to Chinese restaurant and did so, and it was a good time.

On Saturday we had a an activity with the youth and other members, and I taught them how to make s'mores. :) It was fun teaching them, since they had never had that kind of experience before, and the youth really seemed to like it. We didn't have graham crackers but we found some similar cookies that did the job.

On Sunday, I had a fun little experience. 

I was looking for my name tag, but I wasn't able to find it after a few minutes of not finding it, I just grabbed a name tag that I received in the MTC (It only has my name in Korean), and went out for a bit.

We came back to the house for a bit, and I sat down and read my scriptures, and I read 3 Nephi 14:7-8. At that moment I looked up and saw the name tag that I was looking for, almost as if someone put it there for me. :)

I'll share that scripture for this week, and I want to let you know that God watches over us in the little things we need just as much as the big things. He loves all His children.

Transferencia 14, Semana 2- Una casa nueva entera (algo asi)

Hola a todos, espero que estés bien. Tuve una buena semana, definitivamente fue un momento lleno de acontecimientos.

¡El martes, fuimos a un lago por el monte Geumseong, y había un montón de cerezos floreciendo! Ahora la mayoría de las flores se han ido, pero en ese día hacía viento, y los pétalos que caían hacían parecer que había una ventisca en un día soleado. Definitivamente fue inolvidable.

El jueves, nos mudamos de apartamentos, pero todavía estamos en el mismo complejo de apartamentos, jaja. Y en realidad estamos más cerca de la iglesia, lo cual es sorprendente, ya que estamos a sólo 2 minutos a pie, pero ahora podemos ver el precioso "templo" Naju de la 10ª planta.

Algo Divertido: cuando los coreanos se mudan a un nuevo hogar, celebran comiendo 짜장면 (fideos en una especie de salsa negra), así que fuimos al restaurante chino y lo hicimos, fue un buen momento.

El sábado tuvimos una actividad con los jóvenes y otros miembros, y les enseñé cómo hacer s'mores. :) Fue divertido enseñarles, ya que nunca habían tenido ese tipo de experiencia antes, y los jóvenes realmente parecían gustarles. No teníamos galletas de graham pero encontramos algunas galletas similares que hicieron el trabajo.

El domingo, tuve una experiencia poca divertida.

Yo estaba buscando mi placa, pero no pude encontrarla después de unos minutos, asi que agarre una placa que recibí en el MTC (sólo tiene mi nombre en coreano), y salimos  por un momento.

Regresamos a la casa un poco, y me senté y leí mis escrituras, y leí 3 Nefi 14: 7-8. En ese momento levanté la vista y vi la etiqueta de nombre que buscaba, casi como si alguien me la pusiera allí. Unesdoc.unesco.org unesdoc.unesco.org

Voy a compartir esa escritura para esta semana, y quiero que sepas que Dios vela por nosotros en las pequeñas cosas que necesitamos tanto como las grandes cosas. Él ama a todos sus hijos.
