Hello all! This will be short. I just want to wish you a very merry Christmas, since you'll get this email on the 25th (Time zones and international date lines are the best).

Skyping home was great, and I know that family is forever. My companion's mom is in a provincial part of the Philippines, so he had to make a phone call, but it was good! Even though there is a typhoon going on, his family is safe and well. :)

I know that the Savior lives, and His hand is in our lives, and this time is a good time to remember Christ, but I know that Christ is always remembering us. :)

Alma 38:9 And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.

¡Hola a todos! Esto será corto. Sólo quiero desearles una muy feliz Navidad, ya que recibirás este correo electrónico el día 25 (las zonas horarias y las líneas de fecha internacionales son las mejores).

Skyping a casa fue grandioso, y sé que las familias son eternas. ¡La mamá de mi compañero está en una provincia de Filipinas, así que él tuvo que hacer una llamada de teléfono, pero estuvo bien! A pesar de que hay un tifón pasando, su familia está a salvo y bien.

Sé que el Salvador vive, y su mano está en nuestras vidas, y este tiempo es un buen momento para recordar a Cristo, pero sé que Cristo siempre nos está recordando.

Alma 38: 9 Y ahora, hijo mío, os he dicho esto para que aprendáis sabiduría, para que aprendáis de mí que allí No hay otra manera o medio por el cual el hombre pueda ser salvo, sólo en ya través de Cristo. He aquí, él es la vida y la luz del mundo. He aquí, él es la palabra de verdad y justicia.

Transfer 11, Week 3- "I'm a Dalmatian!"

Hello all, I hope things are going well for you back home (or out in the mission field, or wherever you may be)!

This week was pretty uneventful, with the exception of having 3 people come to church, all referrals! The work is moving forward. :)

Well, I just want to say that it snowed for the first time down here in Naju last Thursday! In Korea they call it 첫눈 (first snow). It was also Elder Bustmante's first time seeing snow! #tender

So yeah, the work is moving forward, but I don't have much to say. I hope you have a great week, and I hope you all have such a merry Christmas! I love my Savior, and I know that He lived and died for each of us, and he will never stop us from entering into the arms of His love.

These pictures are just pictures of part of Naju. It's nice. All the snow melted basically overnight, which is a bummer. But I love the beauty of Naju. In Korea, they down bury the bodies in the ground, they heap dirt on top of the body, hence the little hills you see in one picture.

Transferencia 11, Semana 3- "¡Soy dálmata!"

¡Hola a todos, espero que las cosas vayan bien para usted en casa (o en el campo de la misión, o donde quiera que esté)!

¡Esta semana fue sin incidentes, con la excepción de tener 3 personas vienen a la iglesia, todas las referencias! El trabajo está avanzando.

¡Bueno, sólo quiero decir que nevó por primera vez aquí en Naju el jueves pasado! En Corea lo llaman 첫눈 (primera nieve). ¡También fue la primera vez que el Elder Bustamante vio nieve! 

Bueno, el trabajo está avanzando, pero no tengo mucho que decir. ¡Espero que tengan una gran semana, y espero que todos ustedes tengan una feliz Navidad!  Yo amo a mi Salvador, y sé que vivió y murió por cada uno de nosotros y que nunca nos impedirá entrar en los brazos de su amor.

Estas fotos son sólo imágenes de la parte de Naju. Es agradable. Toda la nieve se derretía básicamente durante la noche, lo cual es una lástima. Pero me encanta la belleza de Naju. 

En Corea, ellos colocan los cuerpos en el suelo, amontonan Tierra en la parte superior del cuerpo, de ahí las pequeñas colinas que ven en una foto.

Transfer 11, Week 2- "I thought you were from Africa" "Samoa?"

Hi all! I'm doing well. I hope you all are well. Now that the small talk's out of the way... :)

I love Naju. It's very small, and the people have a tendency to disappear at night (Even on weekends- there's actually LESS people, haha), but the members are so full of love and energy, and the really like the missionaries here.

So now, story time, in chronological order.

1. We went to visit a member in the countryside, he lives in a village, to my surprise (I didn't think villages really existed anymore). I sat in the front of the bus, and we started to talk. At one stop he stared at me intently through the mirror, and after a few seconds, I asked him if there was something wrong. The following conversation took place in Korean:

Driver: "Your face isn't black, though."

Me: "I'm sorry, say that again?"

Driver: "Your face isn't black."

Me: "Ah, I'm Latino."

Driver: "Oh. I thought you were from Africa."

Korea's not the most diverse of places in the countryside.

Story 2- The sisters in Mokpo gave me a call at about 3 or 4 on Thursday, and it turns out that they had an investigator that could to be baptized on Saturday, and so we dropped all our plans, took the train down to Mokpo and I interviewed her. She was baptized and confirmed over the weekend. :)

Also, Thursday evening is when they have meetings with the ward mission leader, and when he walked in the church, he looked at me, and said "Oh, Samoa?"

I replied, "No, my parents are from Venezuela."

He was just joking about Samoa, I found out, but he saw me and told me that he was reminded of his Hawaiian companions. Fun stuff.

So that's all I have to say for now, I hope you have a great week! I've been able to see little tender mercies, and unfortunately, the Christmas spirit is not very strong here in this part of the world, except for some lit up churches and bakeries. Anyway, just keep trying to #LightTheWorld, and I will try over here in the little land of Naju. :)

Transferencia 11, Semana 2-“¿pensé que eras de África” ”Samoa?"

¡Hola a todos! Lo estoy pasando bien. Espero que todos estén bien. Ahora que salir de la charla de la manera ... :)

Me encanta Naju. Es muy pequeño, y la gente tiene una tendencia a desaparecer en la noche (incluso los fines de semana, en realidad hay menos gente, jaja), pero los miembros están llenos de amor y energía, y la verdad les gustan los misioneros aquí.

Bueno, la hora del cuento, en orden cronológico.

1. Fuimos a visitar a un miembro en el campo, que vive en una aldea, para mi sorpresa (No pensé que realmente existieran más aldeas). Me senté en la parte delantera del autobús, y empezamos a hablar. En una parada se quedó mirándome fijamente a través del espejo, y después de unos segundos, le pregunte si había algo malo. La siguiente conversación tuvo lugar en Corea:

Conductor: "Su cara no es negra, sin embargo."

Yo: "¿Lo siento, puede decirlo de nuevo?"

Conductor: "Su cara no es negra."

Yo: "Ah, yo soy latino."

Conductor: "Oh. Yo pensé que eras de África."

En los Campos de Corea no son los más diverso.

Historia 2 - Las hermanas en Mokpo me dieron una llamada a las 3 o 4 el jueves, y resulta que tenían una investigadora que podía ser bautizada el sábado, y por eso se cayeron todos nuestros planes, tomamos el tren a Mokpo y la entrevisté. Ella fue bautizada y confirmada el fin de semana. :)

También, el jueves por la noche es cuando tenemos reuniones con el líder misional de barrio, cuando entramos a la iglesia, me miraron y dijeron: "¿Oh, Samoa?"

Le respondí: "No, mis padres son de Venezuela."

Él sólo estaba bromeando sobre Samoa, descubrí, pero él me vio y me dijo que se acordó de sus compañeros de Hawai. Divertido.

¡Así que eso es todo lo que tengo que decir por ahora, espero que tengan una gran semana! He podido ver pequeñas misericordias, por desgracia, el espíritu de la Navidad no es muy fuerte aquí en esta parte del mundo, a excepción de algunas Iglesias Iluminadas y panaderías. De todos modos, sigo tratando de #LightTheWorld, y voy a tratar aquí en la pequeña tierra de Naju. :)

Transfer 11, Week 1- Back to the Countryside 시골

Hi all! I hope you had a great week. I sometimes forget that due to time zone differences I don't see emails from my missionary friends in the US until the following week, so I see all these texts talking about eating tons of food, and I was slightly confused. But in any case, I am glad you all ate a lot of food and had a good Thanksgiving. :)

So if you look at the title and think it says "Back to the Future", that's an excellent guess but not the right one. I'm back in the countryside. After being in the city for 3 transfers, it's interesting to note how the city and the countryside are like two different worlds. Also, here in Naju people disappear from the streets when the sun goes down. Even the downtown area is deserted.

I love the area, I love the members, and I love the church building. The church here is so pretty it makes any Utah church feel not special. I'm pretty sure it could be a temple one day. It has a field with grass! You can play soccer, it's amazing. Actually, I heard the the Naju church building has the largest property among all LDS churches in Korea. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's awesome.

I'll send more pictures as time goes on, for sure. I don't have too much time, but I know that God lives and loves us. Here's a Book of Mormon scripture: 2 Nephi 26:23-24

23 For behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you that the Lord God worketh not in darkness.

24 He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation.

Transferencia 11, Semana 1- Regreso al Campo 시골

¡Hola a todos! Espero que hayan tenido una gran semana. A veces olvido que debido a las diferencias de zona horaria no veo los correos electrónicos de mis amigos misioneros en los EE.UU. hasta la semana siguiente, así que veo todos estos textos hablando de comer toneladas de comida, yo estaba un poco confundido. Pero en cualquier caso, me alegro de que todos comieron mucha comida y tuvieron un buen Día de Acción de Gracias. 

Así que si ustedes miran el título y piensa que dice "Volver al futuro", que es una excelente suposición, pero no la correcta. Estoy de vuelta al campo. Después de estar en la ciudad por 3 traslados, es interesante observar cómo la ciudad y el campo son como dos mundos diferentes. Bueno, aquí en Naju la gente desaparece de las calles cuando el sol se pone. Incluso el centro de la ciudad está desierto.

Me encanta la zona, me encantan los miembros, y me encanta el edificio de la iglesia. La iglesia aquí es tan bonita que hace que cualquier iglesia de Utah no se sienta especial. Estoy bastante seguro de que podría ser un templo un día. ¡Tiene un campo con hierba! Puedes jugar al fútbol, es increíble. En realidad, he oído que el edificio de la iglesia Naju tiene la propiedad más grande entre todas las iglesias SUD en Corea. Corríjanme si estoy equivocado, pero creo que es impresionante.

Transfer 10, Week 6- I Forgot It Was Thanksgiving; Transfer Calls

Hello! Happy Thanksgiving! I know it's a little late, but the Thanksgiving holiday here is around late September, according to the lunar calendar, so forgive me. But on Saturday we went to the house of an American member and ate "turkey" (it was actually just chicken- can you find turkey here? I don't know, I've never seen it), and it a great way to celebrate Elder Gutierrez's first Thanksgiving! Think of it- a Filipino celebrating an American holiday in South Korea! Fun stuff!.

So last week we had a musical fireside, and it was pretty good, and pretty decent turnout, and I got to perform "Lida Rose" and "Homeward Bound" with some great mission friends. Unfortunately, I don't have any videos of my performances.

Anyway, because we're moving tomorrow, we weren't able to meet with as many people as we would like to. Also, we got transfer calls.

I'm going to NAJU. It's in the very south of the mission, and since I've only been in the north, this will be a new adventure! Also, I hear the kimchi is super good, I'm quite excited! 

And my companion Elder Gutierrez will be training! Fun stuff, right? Actually, right now about 40% of the mission is 4 transfers or younger; by about February, that will go up to about 70%. 

Exciting.

Anyway, I just want to give a shout out to all the missionaries far from their families during thanksgiving. You're reaping a wonderful harvest for them.

D&C 31:5-6

 5 Therefore, thrust in your sickle with all your soul, and your sins are forgiven you, and you shall be laden with sheaves upon your back, for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Wherefore, your family shall live.

This is Sky Road, in the Daejeon downtown area- Actually, Daejeon is so big there are a couple downtowns but this is cool.

Transferencia 10, Semana 6- Olvidé que era Acción de Gracias; Llamadas de transferencia

¡Hola! ¡Feliz día de acción de gracias! Sé que es un poco tarde, pero el día de Acción de Gracias aquí es alrededor de finales de septiembre, de acuerdo con el calendario lunar, así que perdóname. Pero el sábado fuimos a la casa de un miembro estadounidense y comimos "pavo" (¿en realidad era sólo pollo- no puedes encontrar pavo aquí? No sé, nunca lo he visto), y es una gran manera ¡Celebramos el primer Día de Acción de Gracias de Elder Gutiérrez! ¡Piense en eso, un filipino celebrando un dia de fiesta americano en Corea del Sur! ¡Algo divertido!.

Así que la semana pasada tuvimos una Charla Fogonera musical, y fue bastante buena, y la participación bastante decente, y llegué a realizar "Lida Rose" y "Homeward Bound" con algunos grandes amigos de la misión. Desafortunadamente, no tengo ningún video de mis actuaciones.

Bueno, porque nos estamos mudando mañana, no pudimos reunirnos con más gente como nos gustaría. Además, nos dieron llamadas de transferencia.

Voy a NAJU. ¡Está al sur de la misión, y como sólo he estado en el norte, esta será una nueva aventura! ¡Además, he oído el kimchi es súper bueno, estoy muy emocionado!

¡Mi compañero Elder Gutiérrez estará entrenando! divertido, ¿verdad? En realidad, en este momento alrededor del 40% de la misión es menor de 4 transferencias o más nuevos; Pero alredor de febrero, que subirá hasta al 70%. Emocionante.

De todos modos, sólo quiero decirles a todos los misioneros alejados de sus familias durante este dia de acción de gracias. Usted está cosechando una cosecha maravillosa para ellos.

Transfer 10, Week 5- We're moving! 세상을 비추라.

Hello all! I'm doing great, I don't have a lot to say. Last week we went to the mission office, and I had some questions about moving (the houses in this mission are REALLY old, so they're doing an overhaul for all but 2 of the residences), and Elder Barton at the office told us that we're moving a week earlier! So that's been our main focus for the past little bit. But I was able to see tender mercies, and we were able to meet one of our investigators with our ward mission leader! By the way, I didn't know the English term for that until last transfer.. But that's another story.

So, I'll share a quick little miracle. Some elders last week came to Daejeon for Pday, and when they had to go home, they realized that they didn't have enough money for the bus ride back to their area. I had carried a jar of change with me that day, and earlier we had counted it at about just under 9 dollars. Anyway, I gave it, and later that night, the elders told me that they were able to pay for both of their bus tickets with the whole jar of change and had some leftover, which added up to a total of over 9 dollars... It was very interesting, and brought to my mind the story of Jesus with the fishes and loaves of bread. This may not mean too much to you, but I really learned that when we give our all, there's the chance that it might not be enough, but God's grace through the Atonement of Christ can make up for the rest, and the leftover are the blessings poured out upon us for our obedience.

Transfer 10, Semana 5 - ¡Nos estamos mudando! 

¡Hola a todos! Estoy muy bien, no tengo mucho que decir. ¡La semana pasada fuimos a la oficina de la misión, y tuve algunas preguntas sobre el traslado (las casas en esta misión son REALMENTE viejas, por lo que están haciendo una revisión para todas menos 2 de las residencias), el Elder Barton de la oficina nos dijo Que nos estamos moviendo una semana antes! Así que eso ha sido nuestro enfoque principal en la semana pasada. Pero pude ver misericordias y pudimos conocer a uno de nuestros investigadores con nuestro líder de misión de barrio. Por cierto, no sabía el término en inglés para  la última transferencia .. Pero eso es otra historia.

Así, compartiré un pequeño milagro. Algunos Elderes llegaron la semana pasada a Daejeon para el Pday, y cuando tuvieron que irse a casa, se dieron cuenta de que no tenían suficiente dinero para regresar a su área. Yo había llevado un frasco de cambio conmigo ese día, y antes lo habíamos contado en poco menos de 9 dólares. De todos modos, se los di, y más tarde esa noche, los Elderes me dijeron que pudieron pagar por ambos de sus billetes de autobús con el frasco entero de cambio y tuvieron algunos sobrantes, lo que sumado a un total de más de 9 dólares. Fue muy interesante, y trajo a mi mente la historia de Jesús con los peces y panes. Esto puede no significar demasiado para ustedes, pero realmente aprendí que cuando damos todo, existe la posibilidad de que no sea suficiente, pero la gracia de Dios a través de la Expiación de Cristo puede compensar por el resto, y el resto son los Bendiciones derramadas sobre nosotros por nuestra obediencia.

Transfer 10, Week 4- Life Lessons

Hello all! I'm a little scattered today, but I am super happy :) Forgive me if my thoughts are all over the place today.

I had a good week! I went on a split with Elder Stroud, and it was a grand time. Also, due to time zone differences we found out about the election results on Wednesday afternoon. Needless to say, I was in for a trip. Interestingly enough, when I tell people on the streets that I came from the US, they always have something to say about Trump and Hillary. Due to the fact that whoever would become president would have a significant effect on the destiny on the Korean nation, the US elections were frequently on the Korean news.

So on my split, Elder Stroud found out about the results of the election, and he being in his last transfer started to worry about the future ahead of him, but we started talking to a guy named Kenneth from Uganda, and after talking about the elections, Kenneth told us something that became the first life lesson that I learned last week:

Life goes on.

It does. God's hand will help us through if we let Him.

Yesterday we met an investigator, and he gave another tidbit of life advice- he basically said we have to be careful with our words:

"Text leaves marks on the mind, but words (speech) leave wounds on the heart."

I have learned a lot last week, and i was able to see tender mercies the past few days.

That's all I have to say for now, but remember that life goes on, and I have found peace in this scripture: Psalms 46: 2,3,10

"2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed,and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. 

10 Be still, and know that I am God"

Translation: "At the couple table, before eating, if you kiss [make out] cleanly (quick kisses are not allowed) for more than 10 seconds, all people at the table will receive a free drink. PS But male/male couples are not recognized.

 Be happy! Thank you!" ......... I did not get a free drink, for your information.

Transferencia 10, Semana 4- Lecciones de Vida

¡Hola a todos! Estoy un poco disperso hoy, pero estoy super feliz :) Perdóname si mis pensamientos están por todo el lugar hoy.

Tuve una buena semana Fui en una división con Elder Stroud, y fue un gran momento. Además, debido a las diferencias de zona horaria nos enteramos de los resultados de las elecciones el miércoles por la tarde. Huelga decir que estaba en un viaje. Curiosamente, cuando le digo a la gente en las calles que yo vengo de los Estados Unidos, siempre tienen algo que decir sobre Trump y Hillary. Debido al hecho de que quienquiera que iba a ser presidente tendría un efecto significativo en el destino de la nación Coreana, las elecciones estadounidenses estaban frecuentemente en las noticias Coreanas.

Así que en la división, Elder Stroud se enteró de los resultados de la elección, y él en su última transferencia comenzó a preocuparse por el futuro por delante de él, pero empezamos a hablar con un tipo llamado Kenneth de Uganda, y después de hablar de la Kenneth nos dijo algo que se convirtió en la primera lección de vida que aprendí la semana pasada:

10 Estad quietos, y conoced que yo soy Dios;

Transfer 10, Week 3- The Heavens Are Open.

Hey all, this week was a little uneventful, but I got to see some tender mercies. I hope you all had a spectacular week!

So almost 2 weeks ago a question was asked at district meeting: In the gospel, what is it that makes you happy?

I kept thinking about that for about a week or so, and though I found things I really liked, I wasn't able to find THE answer I was looking for. Then, on Tuesday last week, we were talking and testifying to a woman on the street, and I said, "I know the heavens are open again".

The woman looked at me and said, "We believe very differently, then." (In Korean, there are a lot of meanings that can be intended in one sentence, so she also might have said something like "Your beliefs are wrong")

Though she said that, I felt a very warm feeling in my heart, and the Holy Ghost testified that the heavens really were open again, and that there is a loving Father in Heaven that really does want to bless us, if we steadfastly look to Him. I know now what it is about the gospel that makes me very happy. :)

So the scripture I'll share is about tithing, but you can enjoy any blessings from heaven when you reach out to him in faith and love.

3 Nephi 24:10 (Malachi 3:10) "prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

Hey todos, esta semana fue un poco sin incidentes, pero tengo que decir que tuve algunas tiernas   misericordias. ¡Espero que todos hayan tenido una semana espectacular!

Casi dos semanas se hizo una pregunta en la reunión del distrito: En el evangelio, ¿qué es lo que te hace feliz?

Me quedé pensando en eso durante una semana o así, y aunque he encontrado cosas que realmente me gustaron, no pude encontrar la respuesta que estaba buscando. Entonces, el martes de la semana pasada, estábamos hablando y testificando a una mujer en la calle, y le dije: "Sé que los cielos están abiertos de nuevo".

La mujer me miró y dijo, "Creemos de manera muy diferente, entonces." (En coreano, hay muchos significados que pueden darse en una frase, por lo que también podría haber dicho algo así como "Tus creencias están equivocadas")

Aunque dijo eso, sentí un sentimiento muy cálido en mi corazón, y el Espíritu Santo testificó que los cielos estaban realmente abiertos de nuevo, y que hay un amoroso Padre Celestial que de verdad quiere bendecirnos, si miramos firmemente a Él. Ahora sé lo que del evangelio me hace muy feliz.

Así que la escritura que voy a compartir es sobre el diezmo, pero usted puede disfrutar de cualquier bendición del cielo cuando se llega a él en la fe y el amor.

3 Nefi 24:10 (Malaquías 3:10) " probadme ahora en esto, dice el Señor de los Ejércitos, si no os abriré las ventanas de los cielos, y derramaré sobre vosotros una bendición tal que no haya donde contenerla. "

¡Abran las ventanas del cielo y tenga una gran semana!

Transfer 10, Week 2- Happy Halloween!

Hi all, I hope you had a good week! Last week, I went to a place called Donghaksa (It's a hiking trail with Buddhist temples and pretty scenery), so I'll just load this email with tons of pictures :)

Anyway, I had a good week. We got a new investigator! Here in Korea we teach English as a form of service, and we also use it as a way to reach out to others and teach the gospel. So this man called from a paper we put up on the street, and when we met, he expressed his desire to speak English well and go to the US and give better opportunities for his 3 children. We asked him what his goals were, and he just said "my dream is to help my kids achieve their dreams".

I was very touched by his desire to bless his family, and I shared my parents' experience when they went to the US. He looked at me after I finished, and he said, "You must be really grateful for the sacrifice your parents made." I looked him straight in the eyes and said "With all my heart".

So go thank your family for all the wonderful things they have done for you and the sacrifices they made to help you be successful! I'm grateful for my family, my heritage and for my Father in Heaven who sent His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 

Here's an unrelated but uplifting spiritual thought: 2 Nephi 33:10 

And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good

That's all I have to say, I hope you have a great Halloween! Side note: Halloween is a thing here, somewhat commercialized, but nowhere near as big as the US. The biggest celebrations here are probably in the LDS churches ㅎㅎ

Transferencia 10, ¡Semana 2- Feliz Halloween!

¡Hola a todos, espero que hayan tenido una buena semana! La semana pasada, fui a un lugar llamado Donghaksa (es una ruta de senderismo con templos budistas y un paisaje bonito), así que voy a cargar este correo electrónico con toneladas de imágenes :)

Bueno, tuve una buena semana. ¡Tenemos un nuevo investigador! Aquí en Corea enseñamos inglés como una forma de servicio, y también lo usamos como una manera de llegar a otros y enseñar el evangelio. Así que este hombre llamó desde un periódico que pusimos en la calle, y cuando le conocimos, expresó su deseo de hablar bien el inglés y de ir a Estados Unidos y dar mejores oportunidades a sus 3 hijos. Le preguntamos cuáles eran sus objetivos, y él simplemente dijo "mi sueño es ayudar a mis hijos a lograr sus sueños".

Yo estaba muy conmovido por su deseo de bendecir a su familia, y compartí la experiencia de mis padres cuando fueron a los Estados Unidos. Me miró después de que terminé y dijo: -Debe estar muy agradecido por el sacrificio que sus padres hicieron. Lo miré directamente a los ojos y le dije: "Con todo mi corazón".

¡Así que da gracias a tu familia por todas las cosas maravillosas que han hecho por ti y los sacrificios que hicieron para ayudarte a tener éxito! Estoy agradecido por mi familia, mi origenes y por mi Padre Celestial que envió a Su Hijo como un sacrificio por nuestros pecados.

He aquí un pensamiento espiritual no relacionado pero edificante: 2 Nefi 33:10

Y ahora bien, mis amados hermanos, y también vosotros los judíos y todos los extremos de la tierra, escuchad estas palabras y creed en Cristo; y si no creéis en estas palabras, creed en Cristo. Y si creéis en Cristo, creeréis en estas palabras, porque son las palabras de Cristo, y él me las ha dado; y enseñan a todos los hombres que deben hacer lo bueno.

¡Eso es todo lo que tengo que decir, espero que tengas un gran Halloween! Nota: Halloween es una cosa aquí, algo comercializado, pero en ninguna parte tan grande como los EE.UU. Las mayores celebraciones aquí probablemente están en las iglesias SUD.

Transfer 10, Week 1- 단풍

Hello everyone, I hope you all are doing well :)

Last week was the most intense week for everyone at the mission office (not me, but they're in the district, so I get to see what goes down.

First of all, the incoming missionaries missed their connecting flight due to some issues at the airport.. haha. Basically, transfer day was moved to Friday. They came in on Wednesday night, but because of the meeting with Elder Bednar, we all had to go to Gwangju, so it was just a night of crazy delays and rescheduling’s around the apostle :)

So, Elder Bednar- it was the most amazing thing! It truly was an edifying and spiritually uplifting experience. No, I didn't shake his hand, and per his request, no pictures were taken by anyone. But that's okay!

One of the most important things I learned was about the fundamentals. Success in life is through consistency, and learning and improving line upon line, precept upon precept. It gave me a lot of comfort knowing that the little things really do make a big difference. :)

That's all I have to say this week! We taught an investigator with a member yesterday, but it seems like it's hard for him to accept the simple truths of the gospel; we'll just proceed forth with the lessons and hope for the best. God's preparing him in some way, I just can't see it yet.

2 Nephi 28:30 

For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have.

Transferencia 10, Semana 1- 단풍

Hola a todos, espero que todos estén bien :)

La semana pasada fue la semana más intensa para todos en la oficina de la misión (no yo, pero están en el barrio, así que la oportunidad de ver lo que se esconde.

En primer lugar, los misioneros entrantes perdieron su vuelo de conexión debido a algunos problemas en el aeropuerto .. jaja. Básicamente, el día de la transferencia se trasladó a viernes. Se produjo en la noche del miércoles, pero debido a la reunión con Elder Bednar, todos tuvimos que ir a Gwangju, por lo que era simplemente una noche de locas demoras y reprogramaciones alrededor del apóstol :)

¡Bueno, Elder Bednar- Fue lo más increíble! Realmente fue una experiencia edificante y espiritualmente edificante. No, no me estrecho la mano, y por su petición, no fotos fueron tomadas por cualquier persona. ¡Pero eso está bien!

Una de las cosas más importantes que aprendí fue acerca de los fundamentos. El éxito en la vida es a través de la consistencia, y el aprendizaje y la mejora de línea por línea, precepto por precepto. Me dio mucha comodidad a sabiendas de que las pequeñas cosas realmente hacen una gran diferencia. :)

¡Eso es todo lo que tengo que decir esta semana! Enseñamos un investigador con un miembro ayer, pero parece que es difícil para él aceptar las verdades sencillas del Evangelio; sólo tendremos que proceder adelante con las lecciones, esperar por lo mejor que Dios lo prepare de alguna manera, yo no puedo verlo aún.

2 Nefi 28:30

Porque he aquí, así dice el Señor Dios: Daré a los hijos de los hombres línea por línea, precepto por precepto, un poco aquí y otro poco allí; y benditos son aquellos que escuchan mis preceptos y prestan atención a mis consejos, porque aprenderán sabiduría; pues a quien reciba, le daré más; y de los que digan: Tenemos bastante, les será quitado aun lo que tuvieren.

Transfer 9, Week 6- Transfer Calls, and Something I Forgot to Mention the Past Few Weeks.

Hey all, I don't have much time, I'll keep it short.

First of all, Transfer calls came this morning. I'm staying with my companion, breaking the Gutierrez curse :) I'm his first companion who will be with him for more than 1 transfer! It will be fun starting his seventh transfer together.

Second of all, I forgot to mention this the past few weeks (not that I didn't want to, just that I forgot ㅎㅎ) ...

*drumroll* We will be having Elder David A Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve coming to our mission! 

He's coming this Thursday. So yeah, that sounds really last minute, but we've known for about a month or so. My bad.

So yeah, I just want to say that I love working with members because Korean is super hard and is\t sounds beautiful when a native speaker participates in the teaching of the Gospel.

Also, we taught a 14 year old kid on Saturday, and I was able to testify of God's love and Jesus' love for all mankind. When I testified, I truly felt that Christ is our Savior, and that He really died to save us from our sins. I hope you all can come to feel the divinity of Christ's atonement in your life.

Alma 7:11

11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. 12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities. 13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.

Transferencia 9, Semana 6- transferir llamadas, y algo que se olvidó de mencionar las pocas semanas pasadas.

Hola a todos, no tengo mucho tiempo, voy a hacerlo breve.

En primer lugar, las llamadas de transferencias fueron esta mañana. ¡Yo me quedo con mi compañero, rompiendo la maldición Gutiérrez :) Soy su primer compañero que estará con él durante más de una transferencia! Será divertido iniciar su séptima transferencia juntos.

En segundo lugar, se me olvidó mencionar esto las últimas semanas (no es que yo no quiero, solo que se me olvidó ㅎㅎ) ...

* Redoble de tambores * Vamos a tener Elder David A Bednar, del Quórum de los Doce visitando nuestra misión!

Él viene este jueves. Así que sí, que suena último minuto, pero lo sabemos desde hace un mes más o menos. Mi error.

Así que sí, sólo quiero decir que me encanta trabajar con los miembros de Corea, porque es muy difícil y  suena hermoso cuando un hablante nativo participa en la enseñanza del Evangelio.

Además, enseñamos a un niño de 14 años el sábado, yo fui capaz de dar testimonio del amor de Dios y el amor de Jesús por toda la humanidad. Cuando testifiqué, realmente sentí que Cristo es nuestro Salvador y que él realmente murió para salvarnos de nuestros pecados. Espero que todos ustedes pueden llegar a sentir la divinidad de la expiación de Cristo en su vida.

Alma 07:11

 Y él saldrá, sufriendo dolores, aflicciones y tentaciones de todas clases; y esto para que se cumpla la palabra que dice: Tomará sobre sí los dolores y las enfermedades de su pueblo.

 12 Y tomará sobre sí la muerte, para soltar las ligaduras de la muerte que sujetan a su pueblo; y sus debilidadestomará él sobre sí, para que sus entrañas sean llenas de misericordia, según la carne, a fin de que según la carne sepa cómo socorrer a los de su pueblo, de acuerdo con las debilidades de ellos.

Transfer 9, Week 5- Time Zone Differences- a Blessing and a Curse

Hey all! I just want to say thanks for the support and love, and I love and support you all. :)

I'm just gonna explain the title. General conference is wonderful! I think it is a wonderful time to tune in to the Spirit and the broadcast and learn from men and women called of God to teach with power and authority. However, due to time zone differences, doing so live would be really inconvenient during sleeping hours and whatnot. Due to translation to Korean, our broadcast is watched one week late (I still watch in English though). Thanks to my good friend the International Date line, I don't have to see American missionaries email about conference until I have watched it the week after they did :)

It was wonderful. I loved Elder Juan A. Uceda's talk (after the heart attack from hearing his Machu Pichu experience); he said how God will hear our voice even though we may not heed His. I received another witness of the power of prayer, and I look forward to utilizing that power, the communication between us and our all-powerful Father in Heaven, to draw closer to Him and bless the lives of those around me.

Really, the whole conference was good. Watch it all. Our mission president made the elders watch the women's session as well. I liked it, I felt like a daughter of God. :)

So yeah, that's all. I want to testify of Christ; He knows us,He suffered for us, and sometimes, to get to know Him better, we have to experience similar suffering to know the kind of man He was, and so we can become the kind of person He is. I experienced that realization, and it was a blessing to know that there is a Savior who loves me.

1 Nephi 19:9

 And the world, because of their iniquity, shall judge him to be a thing of naught; wherefore they scourge him, and he suffereth it; and they smite him, and he suffereth it. Yea,they spit upon him, and he suffereth it, because of his loving kindness and his long-suffering towards the children of men.

My companion Elder Gutierrez got one of his wisdom teeth out, so we took a rest day. 

Also, yesterday the 9th was a national holiday celebrating the Korean alphabet (Really, a work of pure genius. So I dressed for the occasion.

Transferencia 9, Semana 5- zona horaria diferencias- una bendición y una maldición.

¡Hola todos! Sólo quiero decir gracias por el apoyo y el amor, yo les amo y le apoyo también. :)

Sólo voy a explicar el título. ¡La conferencia general fue maravillosa! Creo que es un momento maravilloso para sintonizarse con el Espíritu, las enseñanzas de los hombres y mujeres llamados por Dios para enseñar con poder y autoridad. Sin embargo, debido a las diferencias horarias, hacerlo en vivo sería muy incómodo durante las horas de dormir y otras cosas. Debido a la traducción al coreano, nuestra transmisión se observó con una semana de retraso (aunque Todavía la mire en inglés). 

Gracias a mi buena amiga la línea internacional, que no tuve que ver misioneros estadounidenses correo electrónico acerca de la conferencia hasta que he visto que la semana después de que hicieron :)

Fue maravilloso. Me encantó la charla de Elder Juan A. Uceda (después del ataque al corazón al escuchar su experiencia de Machu Pichu); dijo cómo Dios va a escuchar nuestra voz a pesar de que no podemos prestar atención a la suya. Recibí otro testimonio del poder de la oración, y espero utilizar ese poder, usemos esa comunicación entre nosotros y nuestro Padre todopoderoso en el cielo, para acercarnos a él y bendecir la vida de los que me rodean.

En realidad, toda la conferencia estuvo buena. Ver todo. Nuestro presidente de misión hizo que los Elderes miraran la de sesión de mujeres también. Me gustó, me sentí como una hija de Dios. :)

Bueno, eso es todo. Quiero dar testimonio de Cristo; Él nos conoce, el sufrió por nosotros, y en ocasiones para llegar a conocerlo mejor tenemos que experimentar sufrimientos similares para conocer el tipo de hombre que era, por lo que podemos llegar a ser la clase de persona que es. Experimenté esa realización, y fue una bendición saber que hay un Salvador que me ama.

1 Nefi 19: 9

 Y el mundo, a causa de su iniquidad, lo juzgará como cosa de ningún valor; por tanto, lo azotan, y él lo soporta; lo hieren y él lo soporta. Sí, escupen sobre él, y él lo soporta, por motivo de su amorosa bondad y su longanimidad para con los hijos de los hombres.

Transfer 9, Week 4- KSL

Hey all! I won't be saying too much, but I have been seeing the tender mercies of the Lord in my life, and I hope that you all have as well!

The weather has been cooling down, and apparently the rice harvests are beginning! Unfortunately, since I'm in a big city, rice fields are kinda hard to find.. :( but the harvest of souls continues in the Daejeon mission!

Fun fact from our mission president: Daejeon (대전 - 大田) literally means “great field.” The field is white already to harvest :)

So the title is just a tender mercy I experienced yesterday. We had to take a bus to go to another part of the city for a proselyting activity, but we missed it, and I called the district leader to let him know we would be late, and he told me in essence that there was a reason for me to miss the bus. So I trusted and waited.

A few minutes later, a man and woman came to the bus stop and I moved to the side so they could take a seat, and I tried to communicate, but they were deaf! They were speaking Korean sign language (KSL), which is nothing like ASL at all. My companion had learned a phrase (Nice to meet you), so he did that and they were very happy to see that. The woman kept looking at me, saw my name tag, and signed the word for "Jesus", which seems to be the same in other signing languages. I recognized it, and signed "Jesus" back to them, followed by a thumbs up!

My best street contact yet, and I didn't speak a word. Even though they wouldn't take a pamphlet or pass-along card, I still felt so much love for them, and rejoiced in the knowledge of the resurrection, that they will be able to hear again and hear the voice of a loving God resounding in their souls.

Alma 40:23

 The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.

Transferencia 9, Semana 4- KSL

¡Hey a todos! ¡No voy a decir demasiado, pero he estado viendo las misericordias del Señor en mi vida, y espero que todos ustedes también!

¡El tiempo se ha enfriado, y al parecer las cosechas de arroz están empezando! Por desgracia, desde que estoy en una gran ciudad, los campos de arroz son un poco difícil de encontrar .. :( pero la cosecha de las almas continúa en la misión de Daejeon!

Dato curioso de nuestro presidente de misión: Daejeon (대전 - 大田) significa literalmente "gran campo." El campo blanco está ya para la siega :)

Así que el título es sólo una bella misericordia que experimenté ayer. Tuvimos que tomar un autobús para ir a otra parte de la ciudad para una actividad de proselitismo, pero no lo vimos, y llamamos al líder de distrito para hacerle saber que llegaríamos tarde, y me dijo en esencia, que había una razón para perder el autobús. Así que yo confiaba y esperaba.

¡Unos minutos más tarde, un hombre y una mujer llegaron a la parada de autobús y me moví a un lado para que pudieran tomar asiento, tratamos de comunicar, pero eran sordos! Ellos estaban hablando el lenguaje de signos de Corea (KSL), que no es igual que el ESL en absoluto. Mi compañero había aprendido unas frases (Mucho gusto), por lo que la hizo que ellos estaban muy contentos de ver que tratamos. La mujer no dejaba de mirarme, vio mi placa, y firmó la palabra "Jesús", que parece ser el mismo en otros idiomas. ¡Lo reconocí, y firmé “Jesús” de nuevo a ellos, seguido de un pulgar hacia arriba!

Mi mejor contacto de calle todavía, y no hable una palabra. A pesar de que no tomaron un folleto o una tarjeta, todavía me siento tan lleno de amor por ellos, y me gozo en el conocimiento de la resurrección, que van a ser capaces de escuchar de nuevo y escuchar la voz de un Dios amorosos resonar en sus almas.

Alma 40:23

 El alma será restaurada al cuerpo, y el cuerpo al alma; sí, y todo miembro y coyuntura serán restablecidos a su cuerpo; sí, ni un cabello de la cabeza se perderá, sino que todo será restablecido a su propia y perfecta forma.

Transfer 9, Week 3- Turning the Hearts of the Children to the Fathers

Hello all, I would like to apologize for the late email. Today Some of the elders in our zone went to Gongju to this sick fortress with the Baekje festival on the side. This festival celebrates Baekje, one of the kingdoms in ancient Korea. I don't know too much about Korean history, but it's really interesting, so you should definitely take a look.

This last weekend there was another festival in my area (Ppuri park) called the Hyo filial piety festival. There are tons of statues that represent the origins of Korean family names (Kim, Lee, Park, etc.) with a beautiful landscape as well. There's a genealogy museum as well, so we planned to proselyte and hand out family history pamphlets and whatnot. It was super fun, we got phone numbers and were able to testify about God's plan for us and our families.

Fun fact: Koreans keep extremely good records of their ancestors going back even hundreds if not thousands of years- it's just commonplace to them since they are a Confucianism society that reveres ancestors. However, when you go back far enough, the records are written in Chinese characters, making it difficult for Koreans to read. Indexing must be an interesting experience... Haha.

Family History is extremely important, and I testify that as we reach upward to our ancestors, God will pour down blessings on our families, now and through the generations. So that's my spiritual thought: Malachi 4:6.

"And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

The last pictures are pictures of going to Gongju, with my MTC buddy Elder Benefiel and I sharing a friendly rivalry :)

Transferencia 9, Semana 3- volver el corazón de los hijos a los padres

Hola a todos, me gustaría pedir disculpas por el retraso de mi email. Hoy Algunos de los Elderes en nuestra zona fueron a Gongju a esta fortaleza enferma con el festival de Baekje en el lateral. Este festival celebra Baekje, uno de los reinos de la antigua Corea. No sé demasiado acerca de la historia de Corea, pero es muy interesante, por lo que deberían echar un vistazo.

Este último fin de semana hubo otra fiesta en mi área (parque Ppuri) lo llaman el festival piedad filial Hyo. Hay un montón de estatuas que representan los orígenes de los apellidos de Corea (Kim, Lee, Park, etc.) con un hermoso paisaje también. Hay un museo de la genealogía, así, así que planeamos hacer proselitismo y repartir panfletos de historia familiar y otras cosas. Fue super divertido, obtuvimos numeros de teléfonos y pudimos atestiguar sobre el plan de Dios para nosotros y nuestras familias.

Dato curioso: los coreanos guardan muy buenos registros de sus antepasados que se remontan incluso a cientos, si no miles de años- es sólo un lugar común para ellos, ya que son una sociedad confuciana que veneran a sus antepasados. Sin embargo, cuando se va hacia atrás lo suficiente, los registros están escritos en caracteres chinos, lo que hace difícil para los coreanos de leer. La indexación debe ser una experiencia interesante ... Haha.

La historia familiar es extremadamente importante, y testifico que a medida que se dirigen hacia arriba a nuestros antepasados, Dios derramará bendiciones sobre nuestras familias, ahora y hasta las generaciones. Así que ese es mi pensamiento espiritual: 

Malaquías 4: 6.

"El hará volver el corazón de los padres hacia los hijos, y el corazón de los hijos hacia los padres, no sea que yo venga y hiera la tierra con maldición."
