Transfer 9, Week 2- Happy Holidays

Hey all! I hope you had a wonderful Korean Thanksgiving weekend (even if you didn't celebrate it). It was nice for me, but there were almost no people on the streets. When I did see people gathered as families, it left a very deep impression seeing them smile, laugh, and just spend quality time together. Truly families are gifts from God. :)

I feel blessed to have the knowledge that families can be together forever. When we tell people about it, it's almost always a positive response (and then they put up their hand, meaning they reject us and don't want to talk to us anymore, haha). I hope you all back home are taking advantage of the time you have with your family; it's more precious than any material substance you can find in this world.

Chuseok, also known as Korean Thanksgiving Day, is one of the most important and festive holidays of the year. This year, Chuseok falls on Thursday, September 19th, but the holiday period actually lasts for three days in total – including the day before and after Chuseok

So on Wednesday we had Elder Choi Yoon Hwan from the seventy come and talk to our mission! It was great. He had great stories, and I was able to receive personal revelation for my missionary work and personal development.

So that's most of what I have to say, but I want to share a BoM scripture! I started again from the beginning, and I really like the classic scripture mastery, 1 Nephi 3:7:

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

God wants us to be successful in this life and the next. He's prepared the way for everyone to do that.

Transferencia 9, Semana 2- Feliz dia de Fiesta.

¡Epa a todos! Espero que hayan tenido un fin de semana de Acción de Gracias coreano maravillosa (incluso si no lo celebra). Fue muy agradable para mí, pero casi no había gente en las calles. Cuando las vi personas era como familias, que me dejó una impresión muy profunda verlos sonreír y simplemente pasar tiempo de calidad juntos. Verdaderamente las familias son dones de Dios. :)

Me siento bendecido por tener el conocimiento de que las familias pueden estar juntas para siempre. Cuando le decimos a la gente sobre esto, es casi siempre una respuesta positiva (y luego ellos pones sus manos arriba, lo que significa que nos rechazan y no quieren hablar con nosotros más, jaja). Espero que todos en casa está tomando ventaja del tiempo que tiene con su familia; es más valioso que cualquier sustancia material que puedan encontrar en estés mundo.

Chuseok, también conocido como el Día de Acción de Gracias Coreano, es una de las fiestas más importantes y festivos del año. Este año, el Chuseok cae el jueves, 19 de septiembre, pero el período de vacaciones en realidad tiene una duración de tres días en total - incluyendo el día antes y después de Chuseok.

¡Bueno este miércoles tuvimos a Elder Choi Yoon Hwan de los Setenta quien vino a hablar con nuestra misión! Fue grandioso. Tenía grandes historias, pude recibir revelación personal para mi trabajo como misionero y mi desarrollo personal.

¡Bueno esto es todo lo que tengo que decir, pero quiero compartir una escritura del libro de Mormon! Empecé de nuevo desde el principio, me gusta mucho el dominio de las Escrituras clásico, 

1 Nefi 3: 7:

Y sucedió que yo, Nefi, dije a mi padre: Iré y haré lo que el Señor ha mandado, porque sé que él nunca da mandamientos a los hijos de los hombres sin prepararles una vía para que cumplan lo que les ha mandado.

Dios quiere que tengamos éxito en esta vida y la siguiente. Él ha preparado el camino para que cada uno haga eso.

Transfer 9, Week 1- 추석, mahal ko ang mga filipino

Hey! I'll be short this week.

This week is 추석 (Chuseok). It's like some harvest moon festival where families get together, and traffic is absolutely insane- 55 million people moving in a space smaller than Utah, full of rolling hills and winding roads. The Korean missionaries skype at this time, and the lunar new year. Cool, right?

So, my companions Elder Hiatt and Elder Ellis left, the first in Gwangju, the other in Cheonan, so I got a new companion, Elder Gutierrez!  You think he's Latino, but he's from Manila, Philippines! I'm learning some Tagalog on the side.

Due to transfers, we weren't able to meet with many people, so that's most of what I have to say. I made a custom missionary planner, and that is my spiritual thought for the week, but it's in Spanish, so you'll have to translate the scripture, but it's not too hard :)

Transferencia 9, Semana 1- 추석, Mahal ko ang mga filipino

¡Oye! Voy a ser breve esta semana.

Esta semana es 추석 (Chuseok). Es como un festival lunar de la cosecha, donde las familias se reúnen, y el tráfico es absolutamente loco - 55 millones de personas que se mueven en un espacio más pequeño que Utah, lleno de colinas y caminos llenos de curvas. Los misioneros coreanos llaman por skype en estos momentos, es el año nuevo lunar. Chevere, ¿verdad?

Bueno, mis compañeros Elder Hiatt y Elder Ellis fueron cambiados, el primero en Gwangju, el otro en Cheonan, así que me dieron un nuevo compañero, Elder Gutierrez! ¿Creen que es latino, pero él es de Manila, Filipinas! Estoy aprendiendo algunas palabra en tagalo en el lateral.

Debido a las transferencias, no pudimos tener citas con muchas personas, por eso no tengo mucho que decir. Hice un planificador especial de misionero y ese es mi pensamiento espiritual para la semana, pero está en español, por lo que tendrá que traducir la escritura, pero no es demasiado difícil :)

Transfer 8, Week 6- I guess you'll have to find out about transfers next week

Hello all, I hope you're doing well, and if it's hot where you're living right now, don't let the heat get to you! 화이팅!

This week was good, though slightly uneventful. We had a less active randomly call us on Tuesday, so we got a chance to meet him and it was a good time, but he's having a hard time coming out to church.

That same day some random man called, asking for an interview, but we didn't quite catch all the Korean, so we went and found out it was a job interview for some English teaching company, and we had to politely decline. Haha, Korea's an adventure.

We met with a kid on Saturday, and taught him the gospel of Jesus Christ using a Rubik's cube, I'll have to send a video sometime. Also,on Saturday I happened to see Elder Yamashita, as well as Sister Joy D. Jones visiting in our church building. Super cool! But no pictures...

So, that's all I have to say. The Lord's work is moving forward, and sometimes it can be slow. But I love it.

This morning, I finished reading the Book of Mormon is Spanish. I knelt to pray about it's truth, and a felt a very warm feeling in my stomach, and a sensation that felt like a hug. It was good.

Moroni 7:13

But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.

I know that the Book of Mormon is inspired of God, and inspires all who read it with a willing heart to serve Him. It has been a blessing in my family, in my life, and especially on my mission. I invite you all to read it with a heart that's ready to learn, and ready to feel God's love.

Our lovely AP Elder Willets goes home this week, so the sisters gave him a little gift.

We did a street contacting activity with a giant door painted like the Book of Mormon. Fun stuff.

Transferencia 8, Semana 6- supongo que tendrán que esperar sobre las transferencias hasta la próxima semana.

¡Hola a todos, espero que estés bien y si hace calor donde está viviendo en este momento, no dejen que el calor se vuelve a usted! 화이팅!

Esta semana fue buena, aunque un poco sin incidentes. Tuvimos una llamada de un menos activo al azar el martes, así que nos dio la oportunidad de reunirnos con él y fue un buen momento, pero está teniendo dificultades para ir a la iglesia.

Ese mismo día, un hombre al azar llamó, solicitando una entrevista, pero no acabábamos de entender todo el coreano, por lo que fuimos y nos enteraron de que era una entrevista de trabajo para alguna compañía de enseñanza de inglés, y tuvimos que declinar cortésmente. Jaja, Corea es una aventura.

Nos encontramos con un niño el sábado y le enseñó el Evangelio de Jesucristo mediante cubo de Rubik, voy a enviarle un vídeo en algún momento. Además, el sábado pasó a verme Elder Yamashita, así como la hermana Alegría D. Jones visitar en nuestro edificio de la iglesia. ¡Super Chevere! Pero no hay fotografías ...

Por lo tanto, eso es todo lo que tengo que decir. La obra del Señor se está moviendo hacia adelante, ya veces puede ser lento. Pero me encanta.

Esta mañana, he terminado de leer el Libro de Mormón es español. Me arrodillé para orar al respecto de la verdad, y sentí una sensación muy cálida en el estómago y una sensación de que se sentía como un abrazo. Estuvo bien.

Mas he aquí, lo que es de Dios invita e induce a hacer lo bueno continuamente; de manera que todo aquello que invita e induce a hacer lo bueno, y a amar a Dios y a servirle, es inspirado por Dios.

Yo sé que el Libro de Mormón es inspirado de Dios, e inspira a todos los que leen con un corazón dispuesto a servirle. Ha sido una bendición en mi familia, en mi vida, y sobre todo en mi misión. Los invito a todos a leer con un corazón que esté listo para aprender y listo para sentir el amor de Dios.

Transfer 8, Week 5- Olympics, and a Nice Change in Weather

Hi everyone! I'm a little busy today, so I'll have to try to keep this email short.

So, last Pday we went to another part of Daejeon (The Yuseong ward building) and met as a zone with the Cheongju elders and had our own olympics since we can't watch TV. We played ping pong, volleyball, and 촉구 (I have no idea what it's called in English... imagine playing tennis with a soccer ball, and using only your feet, with an infusion of some volleyball rules- it's fun). I'll send pictures later, but here's a video of one of the elders playing a cool Korean instrument- He can play more instruments and has gone to international festivals to represent Korean traditional music.

The weather changed! There's a day called 처서, and it's when the winds change direction bringing in cool weather. Lots of rain came in, and one night we were caught without an umbrella.

So all in all, it was a good week. Still doing my missionary thing. Koreans are a wonderful people, and it is a blessing to serve in this land, trying to help the children of God over here. Next week I'll share an experience talking with someone on the street.

"And because thou hast seen thy weakness thou shalt be made strong, even unto the sitting down in the place which I have prepared in the mansions of my Father."

It's hard to look at my weaknesses, but I know that if I look to the Lord, He will strengthen me in times of peace, and in times of trial. I know he will do the same for you.

Transferencia 8, Semana 5- Juegos Olímpicos y un cambio agradable en el Tiempo.

¡Hola a todos! Estoy un poco ocupado hoy en día, voy a tener que mantener este mensaje corto.

El ultimo dia de Preparacion fuimos a otra parte de Daejeon (En la Capilla del barrio Yuseong) y nos reunimos con los elderes de la zona Cheongju tuvimos nuestras propias olimpiadas ya que no podemos ver la televisión. Hemos jugado ping pong, voleibol y 촉구 (no tengo ni idea como se llama en Inglés ... imaginasen jugar al tenis con una pelota de fútbol, y utilizando sólo los pies, con una infusión de las reglas del voleibol fue divertido). Voy a enviar fotos más tarde, pero aquí hay un video de uno de los Elderes que toca un instrumento-coreano Él puede tocar más instrumentos y ha ido a festivales internacionales para representar la música tradicional coreana.

¡El tiempo cambió! Hay un día llamado 처서 es cuando los vientos cambian de dirección con lo que trae en el clima frío. Muchas lluvias entraron y una noche nos agarró sin paraguas.

Así que en general, fue una buena semana. Haciendo lo mío de misionero. Los Coreanos son personas maravillosas y es una bendición servir en esta tierra, tratando de ayudar a los hijos de Dios aquí. La semana que viene voy a compartir una experiencia al hablar con alguien en la calle.

Y porque has visto tu debilidad, serás fortalecido, aun hasta sentarte en el lugar que he preparado en las mansiones de mi Padre.

Es difícil mirar a mis debilidades, pero sé que si miro al Señor, Él me fortalezca en tiempos de paz y en tiempos de prueba. Yo sé que él hará lo mismo por usted.
