Transfer 8, Week 2- Halfway There, Living on a Prayer

 Hello all! This was a good week.

 

I should let you know that a year ago from last Friday, the 5th, was my one-year mark! Crazy stuff. I was in a very reflective mood in personal study, and I can easily claim that I am a completely different person compared to me 1 year ago. It's wonderful. My testimony is stronger than I could have ever imagined, and I trust the Lord and His plan for me, and for all of His children. I testify of the truth of the Book of Mormon, and though my knowledge isn't perfect, I know that God's knowledge is, and if we ask Him, he will give us an assurance of the truth in our minds and hearts.

 

This week was uneventful for the most part, but one afternoon we talked to this one drunk man on the street, and he invited us back to his home later in the evening. He took a copy of the Book of Mormon, and hearing about his life, he was humbled by his circumstances, but still needs some more guidance to find God in his life. He had a family, but his children passed away, and he's now living alone. He wanted to come to church yesterday, but he wasn't feeling too well..

 

We have another investigator, he's 14, and he loves the church. We were walking to his house and while we were on the way, we called him, and he said he wanted to sleep more, and didn't want to go to church.. So we turned around. I jokingly told Elder Hiatt "It's okay, there's a reason we're out here". When we almost arrived to the church, a woman waved at us, and it turns out she was a member from Brazil (living in Canada) visiting for a short time in Korea. I met her the week before, so I ran up and said hi, and she said "You are the greatest thing I have seen in my life!"

 

She got lost and was trying to find the church for a couple hours, and had we not been there she may not have been able to do so. I loved that small miracle on a hot Sunday morning on the street.

She then shared her testimony in sacrament meeting and asked me to translate for her, Let me tell you, I made many mistakes, but I experienced the gift of tongues that day for sure ㅋㅋ

 

Her testimony was wonderful, and I can't even begin to tell you all the things I learned from her and from this whole weekend. So I'll just move to a scripture I like.

 

And this is the blessing which hath been bestowed upon us, that we have been made instruments in the hands of God to bring about this great work. 

Alma 26:3

Keep working hard, keep praying, and love the Lord.

Transferencia 8, Semana 2- A mitad de camino, Viviendo en oración.

 

¡Hola a todos! Esta fue una buena semana.

 

¡Debo hacerles saber qué hace un año desde el pasado viernes, día 5, fue mi marca de un año! Cosas locas. Estaba en un estado de ánimo muy reflexivo en el estudio personal, y puedo afirmar fácilmente que yo soy una persona completamente diferente en comparación conmigo hace 1 año. Es maravilloso. Mi testimonio es más fuerte de lo que podía haber imaginado, confío en el Señor en Su plan para mí y para todos sus hijos. Doy testimonio de la veracidad del Libro de Mormón y aunque mi conocimiento no es perfecto, sé que el conocimiento de Dios lo es, y si se lo pedimos, que nos dará una garantía de la verdad en nuestras mentes y corazones.

 

Esta semana fue sin incidentes en su mayor parte, pero una tarde hablamos con éste hombre borracho en la calle, y nos invitó a su casa tarde en la noche. Tomó un ejemplar del Libro de Mormón, y escuchar acerca de su vida, que se humillase, por sus circunstancias, pero todavía necesita un poco más orientación para encontrar a Dios en su vida. Tenía una familia, pero su hijo falleció, y que ahora está viviendo solo. Quería venir a la iglesia ayer, pero que no se sentía demasiado bien ..

 

Tenemos otro investigador, que tiene 14 años, y él ama a la iglesia. Estábamos caminando a su casa y mientras estábamos en el camino, lo llamamos, y me dijo que quería dormir más, y no quería ir a la iglesia .. Así que nos dábamos la vuelta; En broma dije a Elder Hiatt "Está bien, hay una razón por la que estamos aquí". Cuando casi llegamos a la iglesia, una mujer nos saludó, y resulta que ella era un miembro de Brasil (viven en Canadá) está visitando Corea por un corto tiempo. ¡La conocimos la semana anterior, por lo que corrimos hacia ella y le dijimos hola, ella dijo “Usted son lo más grande que he visto en mi vida!"

 

Ella se perdió y estaba tratado de encontrar la iglesia por un par de horas, si no hubiéramos estado allí ella no hubiera sido capaz de encontrarla. Me encantó ese pequeño milagro en un caluroso domingo por la mañana en la calle.

Ella entonces compartió su testimonio en la reunión sacramental y me pidió que tradujera para ella, Déjeme decirle cometí muchos errores, pero experimente el don de lenguas ese día a ciencia cierta ㅋㅋ

 

Su testimonio fue maravilloso, ni siquiera puede comenzar a decirle todas las cosas que he aprendido de ella y de todo este fin de semana. Así que voy a compartir una escritura que me gusta.

 

Y ésta es la bendición que se ha conferido sobre nosotros, que hemos sido hechos instrumentos en las manos de Dios para realizar esta gran obra. Alma 26: 3

 

Sigan trabajando duro, mantengan la oración y el amor del Señor.

Transfer 8, Week 1- Big City Tripanionship Adventures

Hello everyone! I hope you had a great week.

So updates: Transfer calls came super late (we got our calls at 4:30 pm- not fun when you have to pack and be ready by Thursday morning), and I am now here in Daejeon! My first big city :) I'm serving in the 선화 (Seonhwa) ward- I hate Romanization with a passion, so I'll never write that in English again ㅋㅋ

In the ward, there's about 30 people or so that come out. There are tons of less actives, so I'll probably be working a lot in that regard. Also, our church building includes another ward (American style, crazy stuff), the Dunsan ward. We were covering both areas, but we split up, and the APs will take over that area.

My companions: I have 2! Elder Hiatt is from Arkansas, and Elder Ellis is from Mapleton Utah. Elder Ellis and I were in the MTC together, so it was fun to catch up with him. Elder Hiatt is 2 MTC groups older than I am, so I didn't see him at the MTC, but he was in my first zone when I came to Korea.

I don't have much time, so I'll keep you updated as time goes on.

Yea, and he looketh down upon all the children of men; and he knows all the thoughts and intents of the heart; for by his hand were they all created from the beginning. (Alma 18:32)

God knows all His children, and knows what's best for them, and has a plan for us that is wonderful, far beyond our imaginations. :) Have a great week! I have pictures, too!

Transferencia 8, Semana 1- Ciudad Grande y aventuras de un Trio.

¡Hola a todos! Espero que hayan tenido una gran semana.

Actualizaciones: Las llamadas de tranferencia llegaron muy tarde (nos llamaron a las 4:30 pm nada divertido cuando se tiene que empacar y estar listo para el jueves por la mañana), y ahora estoy aquí en Daejeon! Mi primera ciudad grande :) estoy sirviendo en el 선화 Barrio (Seonhwa), Odio la romanización con pasión, por lo que nunca lo voy a escribir en Inglés de nuevo ㅋㅋ

En el Barrio, hay alrededor de 30 personas o así . Hay un montón de menos activos, por lo que probablemente voy a estar trabajando mucho en ese sentido. Además, nuestro edificio de la iglesia incluye otro Barrio (estilo americano, cosas locas), el barrio Dunsan. Cubríremos ambas áreas, pero nos dividiremos y los asistente se haran cargo de esa área.

Mis compañeros: Tengo 2! Elder Hiatt es de Arkansas, y Elder Ellis es de Mapleton Utah. Elder Ellis y yo estábamos en el MTC juntos, así que fue divertido ponernos al día con él. Elder Hiatt es 2 grupos del CCM mayor que yo, así que no lo vi en el CCM, pero estaba en mi primera zona cuando vine a Corea.

No tengo mucho tiempo, así que voy a mantenerles informados a medida que pasa el tiempo.

Sí, y su mirada está sobre todos los hijos de los hombres; y conoce todos los pensamientos e intenciones del corazón; porque por su mano todos fueron creados desde el principio. (Alma 18:32)

Dios conoces a todos sus hijos y sabe qué es lo mejor para ellos, El tiene un plan para nosotros que es maravilloso, mucho más allá de nuestra imaginación. :) ¡Que tengan una buena semana! Tengo fotos, también!

Transfer 7, Week 6- Late Transfer Calls, and Chaos in the Countryside.

Hello Everyone! I hope you all had a great week. My last week was good, but uneventful in terms of investigators. We mostly focused on our recent converts, especially Josh, because he's going to EFY today! (They call it FSY here in Korea) He's going to learn so much, more than he could ever learn from us.

So transfer calls are going to be on Tuesday.. ㅠㅠ (Those are tears flowing- Korean texting is fun)

Our mission president has to deal with an interesting situation because 19 missionaries are going home this week. We have 8 sisters coming in, so there is no displacement problem for them, but only 2 elders are coming in, so a few areas will have to shrink or close for the time being. I guess I'll let you know about my fate next week!

So, chaos.. Our district leader is gone this week. Normally in that case we'd meet with the other countryside missionaries in a different area for district meeting, but their district leader is also going home and is unavailable for the week... So, I'm not sure what will happen. Oh well, walk by faith, not by sight :) ㅋㅋ (That's laughter in Korean text)

Now, the Book of Mormon! 3 Nephi 18:32 

"...they will return and repent, and come unto me with full purpose of heart, and I shall heal them; and ye shall be the means of bringing salvation unto them."

Shoutout to all those missionaries working hard, harvesting the field of the Lord. You're the best. But also shoutout to all the members in God's kingdom, you are part of this work too, and can be the means of bringing salvation unto your fellow brothers and sisters. :)

Transferencia 7, Semana 6- Llamadas de tranferencias tarde  y el caos en el Campo.

¡Hola a todos! Espero que todos hayan tenido una gran semana. Mi última semana fue buena, pero sin incidentes notables en términos de investigadores. Nos centramos sobre todo en nuestros recientes conversos, especialmente Josh, porque él va a EFY hoy! (Lo llaman FSY aquí en Corea) Él va a aprender mucho, más de lo que jamás podría aprender de nosotros.

Bueno las llamadas van a ser el martes .. (Esos son los mensajes de texto de lágrimas corriendo - Corean texto es divertido).

Nuestro presidente de la misión tiene que lidiar con una situación interesante porque 19 misioneros van a casa esta semana. Contamos con 8 hermanas que entra, así que no hay problema de los desplazamientos para ellos, pero sólo 2 Elder están llegando, por lo que algunas áreas tendran que reducirce o cerrar por el momento. Creo que voy a hacerles saber acerca de mi suerte la próxima semana!

Por lo tanto, el caos .. Nuestro líder de distrito se ha ido esta semana. Normalmente, en este caso nos encontraríamos con los otros misioneros en el campo en una zona diferente para la reunión de distrito, pero su líder de distrito también se va a casa y no está disponible durante la semana ... Por lo tanto, no estoy seguro de lo que sucederá. Oh, bueno, caminar por fe, no por vista :)  (Eso es gracioso en coreano)

Ahora, el Libro de Mormón! 3 Nefi 18:32

“...... si tal vez vuelvan, y se arrepientan, y vengan a mí con íntegro propósito de corazón, y yo los sane; y vosotros seréis el medio de traerles la salvación.”

Grito a todos aquellos misioneros que trabajan duro, que cosecha el campo del Señor. Eres el mejor. Pero también grito a todos los miembros del reino de Dios, ustedes son parte de este trabajo también y pueden ser el medio para traer la salvación a sus hermanos y hermanas. :)

Transfer 7, Week 5- "He that thrusteth in his sickle" 낫을 휘두르는 자

Good day to you all! I hope you had a good week.

So I actually don't have much to say regarding the work; it was pretty uneventful this week. But my companion and I are having a good time here in Dangjin, working with all the 10 or so members that we have. Really, It's such a blessing to be in this group. I feel a closeness that I don't think I've felt in a long time, and we're all growing and progressing together in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though I don't understand a lot of the words said at church (Church Korean is extremely difficult, even for Koreans, and especially for foreigners), I look forward to every Sabbath day, and being with the members is a delight.

Title: "He that thrusteth in his sickle" (D&C 4:4)- There are lots of rice fields here in Korea. It makes for breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable moments. It's also super green everywhere, but the fields will change color when the next season comes, so I'll try to send pictures of white fields, ready to harvest. :)

I read this in the Book of Mormon the other day; Jesus Christ spoke from the heavens to the inhabitants of the Americas.

"Therefore, whoso repented and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of God. Behold, for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up again; therefore repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved" (3 Nephi,9:22).

God reaches out to all His children in love, it is my hope that we as His children may reach out to Him in love as well.

Transferencia 7, Semana 5-"El que mete su hoz"   낫 을 휘두르는 자

¡Buen día a todos! Espero que hayan tenido una buena semana.

Bueno en realidad no tengo mucho que decir con respecto a la obra; que estas  bastante tranquilo esta semana. Pero mi compañero y yo vamos a tener un buen tiempo aquí en Dangjin, trabajando con todos los más o menos 10 miembros que tenemos. Realmente, es una bendición estar en este grupo.  Siento una cercanía que no creo que  haya sentido en mucho tiempo,  todo lo que está creciendo y progresando juntos en el Evangelio de Jesucristo. A pesar de que yo no entiendo mucho de las palabras digo en la iglesia (El Coreano de la iglesia es extremadamente difícil, incluso para los coreanos, y especialmente para los extranjeros), espero todos los días por el dia de reposo  y estar con los miembros es una delicia.

Título: "El que mete su hoz" (D. y C. 4: 4) - Hay un montón de campos de arroz aquí en Corea. Se convierte en paisajes y momentos inolvidables. Es también muy verde en todas partes, pero los campos cambiará de color cuando llegue la próxima temporada, así que voy a tratar de enviar fotos de los campos blancos, listos para la cosecha. :)

He leído esto en el Libro de Mormón, el otro día; Jesucristo habló de los cielos para los habitantes de las Américas.

 Por tanto, al que se arrepintiere y viniere a mí como un niño pequeñito, yo lo recibiré, porque de los tales es el reino de Dios. He aquí, por estos he dado mi vida, y la he vuelto a tomar; así pues, arrepentíos y venid a mí, vosotros, extremos de la tierra, y sed salvos.  (3 Nefi 9: 22).

Dios alcanza a todos sus hijos en el amor, es mi esperanza que nosotros como Sus hijos podamos  llegar a Él en el amor también.

Transfer 7, Week 4- Meet the Madsens, and 고난의 풀무

Hello everyone! This was a pretty interesting week.

We went to Daejeon on Tuesday and the northern zones had a meet and greet with our new mission president and his wife, President and Sister Madsen. Actually, I stopped by in the office before the meeting started, talking with the Elders in there, and president walked in, and I had no idea it was him. I kept racking my brain, asking myself who this American was, since I'd never seen him before. He was kind enough to introduce himself, and that cleared up the confusion.

I look forward to serving with him as mission president. He's so full of love and joy, and his wife is a spectacular woman as well.

So, the Korean part... Read 1 Nephi 20:10. This time is the monsoon season, so lots of rain and clouds make the weather relatively cool, but on Friday the sun decided to just blaze in its fullness and glory, making for a fun day walking. I am drenched for most of my working hours, but now the clouds are back, and may stay until the end of july when the season ends.

In other news, I finished the Pearl of Great Price. It's shorter than I expected. I had always bounced around, but never just go from start to finish. Reading Joseph Smith's history was a very pleasant experience, and I know for certain that he was a prophet of God.

Yesterday I gave a talk in church, referencing to Sister Mary R. Durham's talk from last conference. It was okay, preparing was hard since I don't have a Liahona in English.. and also because I was notified the day before. Fun stuff, but I wasn't scared because only 10 people attended sacrament meeting. :)

Transferencia  7, Semana 4- Conocimos  los Madsen  y  고난 의 풀무

¡Hola a todos! Esta fue una semana muy interesante.

Fuimos a Daejeon el martes y las zonas del norte teníamos que conocer y saludar a nuestro nuevo presidente de misión y su esposa, El presidente y la hermana Madsen. Realmente, paramos  por la oficina antes de que comenzara la reunión, para hablar con los Elderes  allí, y el presidente entro, y no tenía ni idea de que era él. Seguí dándome en  los sesos, y preguntándome quién era este americano, ya que nunca lo había visto antes. Él fue tan amable de presentarse a sí mismo, y  aclaró la confusión.

Miro al futuro para servir con él como presidente de misión. Está  lleno de amor y alegría, y su esposa es una mujer espectacular también.

Ahora, la parte Coreana ... Lean  1 Nefi 20:10. Estamos  en  la temporada del monzón, por lo que hay gran cantidad de lluvia y  nubes hacen que el clima sea relativamente frío,  pero el viernes el sol decidió salir en su plenitud y gloria, para hacer un día de diversión a pie. Estoy empapado durante la mayor parte de mis horas de trabajo,  pero ahora las nubes están de vuelta, y pueden  permanecer hasta finales de julio, cuando termina la temporada.

En otras noticias, he terminado la Perla de Gran Precio. Es más corto de lo que esperaba. Siempre había rebotado alrededor, pero nunca sólo tiene que ir de principio a fin. La lectura de la historia de Joseph Smith fue una experiencia muy agradable, y sé con certeza que él era un profeta de Dios.

Ayer di una charla en la iglesia, haciendo referencia al discurso de la hermana Mary R. Durham desde la última conferencia. Estaba bien, la preparación fue difícil, ya que no tenia una Liahona en Inglés .. y también porque fue notificado  el día anterior.  Fue divertido,  pero no tenía miedo, ya que sólo 10 personas asistieron a la reunión sacramental. :)

Eso es todo lo que tengo que decir, espero que tengan una gran semana!
