Transfer 3, Week 4- Power of Prayer, 18 Below, Chicken for Days

Good day everyone! I trust things are well, hopefully the weather isn't too crazy.

Speaking of crazy weather- I'm in the 2nd northernmost area of the mission (with Jecheon we are the northernmost district), and it hasn't snowed much at all. The streets are completely dry. But everywhere else in the mission (as far as I know) it's snowed a lot. My area is the twilight zone of missionary work. It actually went 18 below zero (Celsius), which is just under 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

Missionary work is definitely a winter adventure, especially when walking by rivers. :)

Also, a former investigator of ours has a baptismal date for March 6. After Elder Hernandez left, he disappeared for about a transfer, but he suddenly called and said he wanted to become a member. So we are working with him to quit smoking. :) We met with him yesterday to establish the baptismal date as well as a plan to quit. He actually came with a plan of his own. On Saturday, he said he usually smokes 20 cigarettes a day, but on Sunday he only smoked 3. The desire left him, especially as we have prayed for him. According to his plan, he should quit smoking by 설날 (February 8), but he wants to be sure he has fully quit smoking before he gets baptized. We told him if he feels like he can be ready earlier, he should tell us. Now we are going to teach the lessons and get him towards a strong relationship with God.

God gave some wonderful miracles, and I know that God answers prayers. We wanted to meet him on Sunday evening, but he wasn't answering our calls so we prayed, and right after dinner he called, we met, and he almost killed us with more food. He tends to do that.

Transferencia 3, Semana 4- El poder de la oración, 18 menos cero, Pollo por Dias.

¡Buen día a todos! Confío las  cosas esten bien, Espero que el clima no este demasiado loco.

Hablando del clima loco estoy en la segunda zona más al norte de la misión (con Jecheon somos el distrito más al norte), y no ha nevado mucho. Las calles están completamente secas. Pero en el resto de la misión (por lo que yo sé) si ha nevado mucho. Mi área es la zona de penumbra de la obra misional. En realidad,  estuvimos a 18 grados bajo cero (Celsius), que es un poco menos de 0 grados Fahrenheit.

La obra misional es sin duda una aventura de invierno, especialmente al caminar por los ríos. :)

Tambien, un ex investigador nuestro tiene una fecha de bautismo para marzo 6. Después de Elder Hernández se fue, desapareció durante una transferencia, pero de repente nos llamó y dijo que quería convertirse en un miembro de la iglesia. Así que estamos trabajando con él para dejar de fumar. :) Nos encontramos con él ayer para establecer la fecha de bautismo, así como un plan para dejar de fumar. En realidad vino con un plan propio. El sábado, dijo que por lo general se fuma 20 cigarrillos al día, pero el domingo que sólo fumo 3. El deseo lo ha dejado, especialmente desde que hemos orado por él. De acuerdo con su plan, debera dejar de fumar para 설날 (febrero 8), pero él quiere estar seguro de que ha dejado de fumar por completo antes de que se bautise. Le dijimos que si siente que esta listo antes, él debe decirnos. Ahora vamos a enseñar las lecciones y llevarlo hacia una fuerte relación con Dios.

Dios le dio hace milagros maravillosos, y sé que Dios responde a las oraciones. Queríamos ir a visitarlo el domingo por la noche, pero no estaba respondiendo a nuestras llamadas, de modo que oramos, y justo después de la cena nos llamó, nos encontramos, y que casi nos mata con más comida. Tiende a hacer eso.

Transfer 3, Week 3- Cheongju Adventures with Elder Burton

Good afternoon all! Sorry for the late email. Elder Burton had to renew his visa since he's been here for a year, so we had to go back to Cheongju (where zone conference was) to take care of that. Immigration is a difficult process, and visas are the worst.

Oh, zone conference was great. President and Sister Shin are great trainers for the missionaries, and I love their counsel.

Yesterday morning at about 8 we got a call from a previous investigator who dropped off the face of the planet after Elder Hernandez, my trainer, left. He apologized and we met with him before church. And then he came to sacrament meeting! With the other teams, we had 4 investigators come. It was a super cool succession of miracles. God's preparing people, and that field is ready to harvest (even in the cold harsh winter).

This week was a good one, not necessarily because it was happy the whole time, but my testimony got so much stronger. God really is there, and He answers everyone's prayers, righteous or sinner. He loves all His children, and He loves to hear their prayers.

Transferencia 3, Semana 3- Cheongju aventuras con el Elder Burton

¡Buenas tardes a todos! Lo siento por lo tarde del correo electrónico. Elder Burton tuvo que renovar su visa desde , así que tuvimos que volver a Cheongju (donde fue la conferencia de zona) para hacernos  cargo de eso. La inmigración es un proceso difícil, y las visas son lo peor.

Oh, la conferencia de zona fue genial. El Presidente y la hermana Shin son grandes entrenadores  de misioneros, y me encantan sus consejo.

Ayer por la mañana a las 8 nos  llamó un investigador que había desapareció de la faz del planeta después que Elder Hernández  mi entrenador  se fue. Se disculpó y nos reunimos con él antes de la iglesia. Y luego llegó a la reunión sacramental! Con los otros equipos, teníamos 4 investigadores que vinieron. Fue una sucesión super cool de milagros. De Dios preparando la gente, y ese campo está listo para la cosecha (incluso en el duro invierno frío).

Esta semana fue buena, no necesariamente porque era feliz todo el tiempo, pero mi testimonio es mucho más fuerte. Dios realmente está allí, y Él responde a las oraciones de todos, justos o pecadores. Él ama a todos sus hijos, y Él le encanta escuchar sus oraciones.

Eso es todo lo que tengo para esta semana. Los amo a todos y manténganse caliente!

Transfer 3, Week 2- Weird weather

Hello everyone! I hope you all have had a good week! Things are good here, the weather is really weird. It's cold, but super sunny, and snow has only fallen a couple of times. Koreans say they're going through a drought, and that this winter was a weird one. Luckily, I documented some snow falling a while back, so I'll send those pictures today.

Didn't have too many appointments, but the ones (maybe just one) we had was absolutely fantastic.

I also wish to testify of God's angels. I'm not gone lie, this Korean missionary thing ain't easy, but in the hardest times that I've experienced here, I felt His angels carry me along, and He sends me what I need at the moment when I need it most. Pray to God, and He will save you, and raise you up and make you better than ever. I promise you that.

There isn't much else to say. People love seeing me and my companions with our Korean names, so that's always something to smile about. Also, we were eating Chinese food, and this guy’s turns around and asks in Korean to my Elder Burton, "America?" Then he points to me. "Africa?"

...I guess Koreans really do think I'm African.

Transferencia 3, Semana 2- Extraño Clima

¡Hola a todos! Espero que todos ustedes han tenido una buena semana! Las cosas están bien aquí, el clima es muy raro. Hace frío, pero muy soleado, y la nieve sólo ha caído un par de veces. Los coreanos dicen que están pasando por una sequía, y que este invierno fue  extraño. Por suerte, me documenté un poco de nieve caída hace un tiempo, así que voy a enviar esas fotos hoy.

No tenía demasiadas citas, pero los que (tal vez sólo uno) que tuvimos fue absolutamente fantástico.

También deseo declarar de los ángeles de Dios. No digo  mentira, esta  cosa de  Misionero Coreanos no es  fácil, pero en los momentos más difíciles que he pasado aquí, sentí sus ángeles llevarme a lo largo, y él me envía lo que necesito en el momento cuando más lo necesite. Orar a Dios,  él te salvara, el te elevara y hará de ti alguien  mejor que nunca. Les prometo esto.

No hay mucho más que decir. La gente ama ver a mi compañero y a mi  con nuestros nombres Coreanos, por lo que siempre es algo para sonreír. Además, estábamos comiendo comida china, y estos chicos se da la vuelta y le pregunta en coreano a Elder  Burton , "América?" Luego me señala a mí. "¿África?"

... Supongo que los coreanos realmente creen  que soy africano.

Transfer 3, Week 1- New year, New me

Hello everyone! Happy New Year! In Korean we say "Receive many of the new year's blessings".
Also, I am now 20 years old, in Korean age, and I'm not even 19. Fun stuff.
So, New Year's was uneventful. Koreans recognize it on the calendar, but the lunar New Year is where the real party happens, February 8th.
In other news, things are well in Chungju. It's hard talking to people here, especially because it's more countryside and there are missionaries from all other churches on the street, so people are a little jaded about being a "victim" of proselyting. But I like it here.
Oh yeah! Transfers were last week! I'm staying here in Chungju, and so is my companion Elder Burton. We have a new district leader, Elder Hogan. Sister Gordon is the new sister in the area.
Fun little story, we met some baptist missionaries one day, and one of them asked if I was from Africa... so yeah, that's not a rare occurrence for me. :) But as we met them, they called us children of the devil, and talked about how we don't believe in Jesus Christ.
In John 3, it talks about how Christ didn't come into the world to condemn it, but to save God's children, and all of us as disciples of Christ should do the same. We can't go around condemning people- we should be reaching out to our brethren, showing them the path to eternal happiness with our Father in Heaven. That's my purpose here in Korea.
We should be willing to show people how they can become clean again through the Atonement, especially because it is a new year, and every day, we can have a new start because of Jesus Christ's sacrifice.

Transferencia 3, Semana 1- Nuevo año, Un Nuevo Yo

¡Hola a todos! ¡Feliz año nuevo! En Corea decimos "Recibir muchas de las bendiciones del nuevo año".
Además, yo soy ahora 20 años de edad, en la edad  Coreana, y yo ni siquiera tengo  19. Fun stuff.
Bueno, el Año Nuevo fue sin incidentes.  Los Coreanos reconocen el calendario,  pero el Año Nuevo lunar es donde la verdadera fiesta sucede, 8 de febrero.
En otras noticias, las cosas están bien en Chungju. Es difícil hablar con la gente de aquí, sobre todo porque es más el campo y hay misioneros de todas las otras iglesias en la calle, por lo que la gente está un poco obsoleta sobre ser una "víctima" de proselitismo. Pero me gusta estar aquí.
¡Oh si! Las Trasferencias  fueron  la semana pasada! Me voy a quedar aquí en Chungju, y tambie  mi compañero Elder Burton. Tenemos un nuevo líder de distrito, Elder Hogan. Hermana Gordon es la nueva hermana de la zona.
Una pequeña historia divertida, nos encontramos con algunos misioneros bautistas de un día, y uno de ellos me preguntó si yo era de África ... así que sí, eso no es un acontecimiento raro para mí. :) Pero a medida que nos reunimos con ellos, nos llamaron hijos del diablo, y hablaron acerca de cómo no creemos en Jesucristo.
En Juan 3, habla de cómo Cristo no vino al mundo para condenarlo, sino para salvarlo hijos de Dios, y todos nosotros como discípulos de Cristo deben hacer lo mismo. No podemos ir por ahí condenando personas- que deberíamos estar llegando a nuestros hermanos, mostrándoles el camino a la felicidad eterna con nuestro Padre Celestial. Ese es mi propósito aquí en Corea.
Debemos estar dispuestos a mostrar a la gente cómo pueden llegar a ser limpio de nuevo a través de la Expiación, sobre todo porque se trata de un nuevo año, y cada día, podemos tener un nuevo comienzo por el sacrificio de Jesucristo.
